| Quote: Andy Gilder "Let's not beat about the bush - if Brierley was as good as some on here seem to think he is, a SL club would have made Leigh an offer that even Beaumont couldn't refuse before now.
He's come to prominence as a support player in a dominant full-time side in a predominantly part-time league, with plenty of space to be flash in because his forward pack are intimidating all and sundry in front of him. Noticeably in the Super 8s he found plenty of holes to hide in when those around him weren't bossing games against better sides.
If signing Brierley means either Sutcliffe or Lilley gets shifted out of the team (or shunted to another position that doesn't suit their game) then it's a piece of short term thinking that I thought the club had grown out of by now. If he doesn't come to Leeds, I won't be complaining that we've somehow missed out on a superstar.'"
Share these concerns. Looked great when Leigh were flying but did not see much contribution when middle 8's were on. I am not convinced Lilley will be a long term answer but he has kept grafting and showing up and showed a lot of character last night.

| In terms of Leigh's Middle 8 performance last year. It says a lot more about Leigh than it does Brierley. I think naively they thought they could keep the same style and win instead of realising they needed to adapt to the different level of opposition.....given that would other HB's have excelled with that approach Leigh took? And given a different /team/coach/league/approach would Brierley improve as a player?
Just because Leigh usually stroll past opposition and took a naive approach to the Middle 8's doesn't mean a player couldn't perform in the SL under different circumstances.
BTW Not saying Brierley would be a success if he came.....just sounds rather naive and simplistic to say he won't make it because of Leigh's results as a team in those Middle 8 games.

Fair enough. Be interesting to see if he gets an SL chance somewhere

So when you said you would bet your house on it... you didn't really mean it? Not that I blame you as your original prediction based on the "horse's mouth" proved to be wrong. So why believe it now? Are you not sceptical of the latest reliable version which has Brierley now a Leeds player out on loan back at Leigh!!

Think it's inevitable that he'll get a SL gig. We were obviously interested in him but I wonder if the emergence of Lilley and the unexpected addition of Ferres to our salary cap has changed things from our perspective.
Ferres and Falloon are only one year deals so extensions (or a new hooker potentially) have to be factored into the 2017 wage bill.

I read that you said he was definatley coming to Leeds if Leigh didn't get promoted.....after that it was just the usual excuses as to why it didn't happen.
Answer this, why would Leeds change the deal knowing Sutcliffe was a serious doubt to be ready for the 2016 season and agree a deal that could see Brierley sit on the sidelines not playing for the best part of the year with Leigh opting for a different HB combo had Chase not already messed up?
It made no sense and was obviously nonsense. I'm sure if he does eventually come to Leeds you'll change your story to the one that actually happens and claim you were right all along even though it'll have been the 3rd different version of events from a reliable source.

So if you talk to the man himself he must've told you why Leeds changed the deal from getting him if Leigh didn't get promoted to a loan deal instead for 2016?
Do share the reason, considering Sutcliffe was sidelined with a serious knee injury.

| Unless Frosties is getting trolled by Brierley himself he'll be a Rhino in 2017 if he isn't so what?
Frosties is only passing on info he's received/heard or being told it's highly amusing that anyone makes such a big deal out of it or play down his past tips that proved correct.
WRT the deal for him coming collapsing after Leigh failed to get promoted that's down to Beaumont and Leigh again these things happen why is such a big deal?
Onto the player personally i think he'd be a decent signing once settled in but time will tell.

| What was all that nonsense about him having signed for Leeds and we loaned him back to Leigh. Are we now loaning him to Bradford?
It could be that Leeds have agreed a first option for him in 2017 but it does rather sound that both he and his agent cannot be trusted as they appear to be leaking different stories all over the place.

| [del[/delGood evening Rhinos' fans.
Having watched Ryan develop over the past three years at Leigh, the lad does have some excellent qualities. He has outstanding pace, an eye for the half chance, and is (has been? ) a great lad, who has always been willing to learn,a nd to engage with the fans - especially the youngsters.
I believe he has earned a crack at Super League, through his excellent performances in the Championship. However, the problem for me is one of where would he fit into a SL team? He is definitely not (up to now) a playmaker. He is an opportunist, who is devastating at backing up, seizing interceptions etc, but has not yet been able to step up to the mark and dictate play. That may be because he has been operating alongside Martyn Ridyard, who is an outstanding playmaker - who, incidentally was injured for most of the Qualifiers, thus exposing Ryan to full responsibility at half back. Ryan wasn't the only one in our team who disappointed at the end of the season.
Apparently, Huddersfield had been considering Ryan for next season - suggesting he probably isn't yet a Rhinos player - as a full back. Other prominent critics consider that is where he would possibly be effective in SL. It's a position that would afford him opportunity and space, to showcase his qualities - but I can't think that you would be looking to him as a replacement for Zak Hardaker!
