I think YCC have to have it completed by 2019 for an ashes test - didn't they restrict use last season as it was dangerous?

| The issue with the shared North/Football stand is that YCCC are in a hurry to get it done because it upgrades their side substantially. The rugby side of the operation aren't, because to them it's just a capital cost that isn't going to add much to the stadium on its south side.
It also makes most sense from a construction perspective to do it during the summer - better weather, longer days, shorter build time. However this is also when it would cause the most disruption to both parties.
There's a delicate bit of negotiation to be done there, hopefully the rugby side will be pragmatic about it and not hamstring YCCC in their attempt to bring up to standard that last part of the Headingley puzzle.
As far as a new South Stand is concerned, you'll get that when the old one gets condemned. As long as GH can continue to pack 8,000 people into it for the big games, he's got no motivation for the expenditure or the hassle it would take to replace it.

| Quote ="Sal Paradise"Headingley is a poor stadium for the best supported, biggest club in the competition. The North stand is a disgrace really - people paying premium prices to sit on old wooden seats is pathetic. The less said about the western terrace the better.'"
Really?
It has the best atmosphere in SL which is due to the stadium. The club seems to have sufficient room for corporate supporters with the cricket side / long bar etc
I sat in the North Stand seats a few years ago for what was a relatively boring Hull KR game and honestly the stand out thing of the night (it really wasn't a classic match) was how comfy those wooden seats were compared to the usual plastic ones. I'd honestly never change them however I do accept they look old fashioned on TV. Maybe a lick of paint every season might help aesthetically?
The Western Terrace is just a terrace. The steps and barriers are well maintained. I used to stand there every week before they stopped the changing ends at half time.
Accept it could do with a roof and I'm sure it would have one if they could get planning permission / buy the houses behind.
So for me we need to paint some seats and put a roof up! Unfortunately until RL starts to appeal to people who watch Wimbledon / Athletics / RU internationals / cycling etc we don't really need a much bigger capacity.

| I disagree totally about the wooden seats in the North Stand. I think they are really small & uncomfortable, not a patch on my plastic seat in the Carnegie Stand.
There is massive goodwill from the Rhinos & YCCC re the need to rebuild the joint stand. The stumbling block I believe is that both parties are seeking funding from the city council - not a simple matter in these austere times.
If that can be achieved then the scheme will go ahead. It will impact less on YCCC than the Rhinos. Indeed I think that the rugby side will need to relocate for a major part of the work otherwise the loss of income would be significant.

Thanks. I expected the stupid comments anyway.
Who the hell wants to go to a rugby match and stand there for 2+ hours getting wet through? I've done it many times before at Headingley but won't again.

of course. Hence the huge uplift in attendance we would see when putting a roof on the western terrace cuts its capacity.
Because it always rains innit.

If it's that important to you that you stay dry, take a seat in the North or Carnegie stand. Or go stand on the Carnegie Terrace.
At least you have the choice about whether you watch the game from a standing or seated position at Headingley. Not the case at some newer grounds, is it?

| I sat in the north stand for the first time at the NZ game. Thought it was ok to be honest, more leg room than I've experienced at Elland Road and Old Trafford plus there was loads of places to eat and drink, wouldn't mind sitting there again

That is what I do now!
And no it's not, but that's just the evolution of stadia, which Headingley has only 1/4 taken part in.

No but I'd recommend getting something new to try and wind people up about because most of us don't care we play in a nice, modern, dry stadium with a great view of the game and a proper concourse but I suspect your intellect couldn't stretch that far.

| It's really depressing to see fans just blindly rolling out rubbish to 'defend' their club. Any muppet can see we should have roofs on all our stands. This summer rugby stuff is just rubbish.
The guy has a point but because he has Wigan in his name people get uppity. Fact is HQ is an old stadium that could do with some upgrades.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the atmosphere, I love being able to stand and I love we aren't in debt. But we aren't talking about moving to out of Leeds to take a loan to build some 30,000 monster stadium. We are talking about a roof on an end terrace.
Really poor response from many on here.

I don't disagree that Headingley does need upgrades but we all know the score regards the western terrace. If GH could get a roof on there it would be but it's out of his hands and is what it is.
You can go on all you want about modern stadia, but i'll wager you ask all the players in SL which ground they love playing at and look forward to going to the most, a high percentage would pick Headingley. The atmosphere is fantastic, that can't be denied.Yes, it needs upgrades and hopefully the South Stand at least will get some TLC soon as well as the North and then it should be in a healthy state. The Western Terrace will never have a roof so the away fans will just have to get over it.How many times will they come anyway? once, twice at the most and a lot of the time it will be a nice dry summers day. Rest of the season they can enjoy the game from their comfy seats nice and dry, in the pretty lifeless stadia we have nowadays up and down the country, while we continue to enjoy the best true Rugby Stadium in the Country

| It's a stroke of genius from Gary leaving the western terrace without a roof. Away fans pay the higher price on the gate, rather than getting cheaper advance tickets and the away club misses out on their 10% commission on tickets, as away fans wait to check it's not raining.

CHOMP! you vapid dolt of the picean persuasion. I know the benefits that the superb stadium you borrow when you are allowed to, from the footballists, offers. But I'd rather attend matches at stadium with equally superb facilities, a history and one where we are prime users.
My intellect whilst I am sure not as impressive as yours stretches a lot further than you'd think. But then underestimating all things Loiner is stock in trade for you perhaps.
Consider yourself let off the hook, swim along

| The Rhinos are the best run rugby league club in this hemisphere and turn over probably as much as both Wigan and Saints do combined, Why is this possible the Wigan fans must wonder?
It's because we can generate our own income on game days and also rent out our facilities on none game days for weddings and other functions where as they cannot as they are only tenants in their shiny but soul less stadium that keeps everyone dry, unless the rain is of course coming in your direction whereby you still get very wet, trust me as i have been rained on there whilst i was sat under a roofed terrace
Should GH and Paul Caddick pamper to these moaning Wigan fans and totally revamp our stadium just to keep them from moaning and also dry on matchday and also put our club under a huge financial burden in the process?
IMO GH will wait until YCCC has its funding in place for their part of the redevelopment of the north stand, which they must have in place very soon or else they won't be a test venue for England games and will lose their biggest money generating fixtures for quite some time
I have heard that the architects drawings and plans for the joint venture have been done quite some time ago but that the planning permission has not yet been submitted

A roof on an end terrace that it is outside Leeds's power to provide. Not quite sure how often we've had this exact same discussion on this board, but the outcome will always be the same. The proximity of the public footpath and houses means the Western Terrace will not get a roof at any time in the near future. If you want a stadium with cover on all four sides, then Leeds would have to move somewhere else, probably some soulless 25k capacity monster on a brownfield site somewhere.
Ask Salford how well that worked out for them.
