| It was unconventional perhaps but Phil Ford was my favourite player when I was young. It is fair to say he probably fizzled out after a while but I seem to recall his first couple of seasons or so were pretty good including I think a couple of tries on his debut and a hat-trick in the famous 50-14, 12-man win over Saints. And yes, there was that tackle. It would be very harsh to include him here.
Ben Walker though, yes. I think the club hyped him up too much in an effort to pretend he would just slot in as a like for like replacement for Harris. If he'd stuck around for a second season I reckon he might have found his groove - but then he might have ended up blocking the path for some once in a lifetime young players so it was definitely for the best in the long run.

| Ford peaked at Bradford, he was top try scorer for his last two seasons and became a GB regular. When he went to Leeds he was shunted to the left - his less favoured side - and he lost his GB place after being crap vs NZ in 89.
He had the odd good game but I don't think he was as consistent.

| It would have helped if his brain had control of his legs...
Incredible try scorer, but just as likely to run the length of the field and drop it over the line.

| Tonie Carroll got 31 tries in 50 games. As far from a flop as you can get really.

and Trent Merrin arguably prevented us from being relegated 3/4 seasons ago.

He was almost unplayable when he was having a good day. I remember him going from one corner to the other beating half the Leeds team in 88 and waving to Marty Gurr as he went past.

I remember that too. And I remember giving him a receipt later on in the game.

| Quote: Biff Tannen "good shout Bullseye David Young is, add John Gallagher to that; my oh my those guys came with huge expectation , cost and fanfare from Union when i was a kid and what huge flops they were. i do wonder if they would have fared better had they joined other clubs of the time that seemed to go far better with cross over players, Widnes in particular springing to mind.
also the Wigan cast offs we seemed to pick up. Gregory, Goodway, Wane only Hanley came off really.
disagree with Innes and Iro. ok maybe Iro was a bit on and off but when on he was a treat to watch..but Innes was class most weeks from what i remember.'"
That was Iro at every club he played for, lazy but what a talent. If he had the application of say Dean Bell he would have been a world beater. However he always seemed to get himself motivated for the big games.
