| Quote ="FlexWheeler"If we can’t get someone from Oz, Shaun Wane? He fits a lot of criteria in terms of being experienced, able to bring in and develop young players, and could certainly make us a dog of a team to play against.
Obviously “he’s a Wigan man”, but I think that kind of dynamic applies more to football than rugby, tbh, where there isn’t the same tribalism. I think he’s had his peak as a coach, but failing someone from OZ either him or Tony Smith would be my choice.
As a club, we need to forget about trying to create another “era”, and move on. Golden generation was a one-off and can’t replicated, they had a special dynamic due to growing up together, we’re trying to create a similar dynamic with different players today and it’s not possible.'"
No. I think his ship has sailed at SL level. He’s well suited to the England job, but don’t think he’d be a right fit long term for us…..

Maybe, but I’m not sure a perfect long-term fit exists.

| Its not someone to 'fit' we need, its someone to come in and revamp the place from top to bottom. We've seen that the Leeds DNA is an utterly laughable myth - most of it left in 2015 and was all gone by the end of 2017. That means someone who is willing to be utterly ruthless and knows exactly what they want. That's why you want someone either vastly experienced or someone from the opposite end who's desperate to prove themselves.

Exactly this. I'd go for experience if only because they might have more say over who their assistants are whereas a relative rookie might find themselves saddled with JJB and Long. Whether GH would wish to pay up the contracts of that pair if it can be avoided is a moot point. Hopefully that won't be what decides who's appointed though I've a sinking feeling it might.

Good point. There’s no way the club sacking, and paying out lump sums to all the coaching team. They are probably giving Agar another role so as not to pay out the 6/12 of whatever they’d owe him!!

Wane isn’t the answer. Has he even won a game as England coach yet?

I’d be happy with any of the top 7 on that list

| The spice boys have been underwhelming for years. They are treated like royalty in Warrington and bar a few CC wins have been perennial bottlers especially recently.
Powell has come in and is trying to change the attitude and cliques that are rife there but I think they have a shed load of players who have zero loyalty to Warrington, zero real interest in them and are happy to take the £££ and adulation without the effort. Sure there’s 8/9 out of contract at end of year so just DGAFF which way it gos so he’s swimming against the tide atm.
This group did Price in and if they continue to flex the way they currently are they’ll do Powell in too, the board need to come out and back the coach and in no uncertain terms let the shirkers know Powell is here to stay and it’s them who’ll be rinsed out not him.
Or they could just just totally bottle it and sack him and the cycle of bottling continues….

ALL. OF. THIS.
Stains tried to keep their great teams ethos and legends on a ventilator with Cunningham, look how that turned out. The cycle needs to end, leave it in the past where it belongs and stop harping on about it etc. these are new players and need to start their own stories not have constant lectures on the 2004-2017 class.
Constantly trying to hark back to a different generation every two mins is folly, this needs immediately breaking apart and new fresh ideas brought in something that allegedly was wanted by Furner but was kiboshed by those within who wanted to cling to past glories, it’s over, for gawd sakes let’s move on!

Maguire could be an option as someone with no previous links to the club to remove the rotten culture we've been trying to get rid of for 6 years. But I want to watch rugby not wrestling so not for me.

| Just thinking back to Furner, maybe he was the wrong man at the wrong time. What he tried to do may of been correct in the wrong way, we will never know but if someone tried now maybe it would be received differently and have different results.
We were awful under Furner, much in the way Warrington are now under Powell. Time will tell, if allowed, if Powell is the right man at the right time for them too

| The ability of any senior coach to turn us around is also dependent on how much freedom they are given by GH. If he’s only looking for a head coach, then he could get anyone and it wouldn’t make a huge impact long term. If we bring someone in with the intention to turn the club around, they must have autonomy.

Agree.

Not much better with Wane tbh.

What have Souths and the Tigers been like under him?
Genuine question as I haven’t watched a lot of NRL over the last few years

Souths OK, but Tigers poor.
I work with an Australian guy who follows the Tigers and hates him.
That brand of 'playing on the edge' rugby can't survive in the modern SL.
It leaks penalties and 6 agains - we do enough of that as it is.
I think they get away with more in the NRL - our officiating (and guidance from the RFL) is stifling any sort of aggression in the game.
Those sort of players will struggle to have an impact over here - Tetevano for example.

That’s simply not true. They are getting 10 mins and reported every game too. Tet had been disappointing, and he needs to sort this out himself….

| Maguire at Souths had Inglis, Reynolds leading the team around and the best three Burgesses at the top of their game, especially Sam, who played like a man possessed the year they won the GF. The style took its toll physically though and once sides worked them out they were gone. At Wests he's seemingly involved in a long-term culture war within the club, and has offloaded a lot of players. The real problem there is just lack of quality in the squad - no coach could make them a contender.
So a no from me. I don't think we've got the players to play a physical game, which is a bit out of date anyway, and he'll find the culture issue possibly just as bad at Leeds as Wests. He's also currently head coach so he wouldn't be interested.
