| The house to the top right of the second pic .. Is that the one that usually has some lunatic sat on the roof watching the game for free ?

It looks like it from the pics Frosties has posted, I havent been to Belle Vue for a few years now but from what I remember that looks like the thin stand down the right hand side from an away fans point of view. IIRC it had a couple of portakabins on it last time I was there.
It's a lot smaller in terms of depth and height than our Western Terrace.

| The Northern Terrace, where most away fans congregate is next on the agenda, and I suppose that is similar to the 'away' end at Headingley. It’s a cheapish solution, however, with the big screen perhaps not practical for Leeds.

| Do the improvements at Belle Vue - no matter how temporary in nature - indicate a realisation by the club that Newmarket may be further away from coming to fruition than they first thought?

Permission has only been granted for two years, which take the club through this and the 2013 season, when Newmarket should be ready, notwithstanding approval this May. Whilst the club are waiting for the development of the new stadium, this is something they could do to make best of what they have to increase the match day experience of the home and away punters.

I will answer that... no!
The SoS will issue his decision on the PI no later than the 30th May and it is hoped that the stadium construction will start towards the end of 2012, with a view to starting the 2014 season at Newmarket. However, the plan does rely on the B8 development alongside the stadium and the developers, Yorkcourt & Langtree (heard of them?) will need to get some tenants committed to release funds. Again though, it is a strong rumour that they already have a couple of tenants lined up and certainly for the largest unit, which appears to have been planned with an end user in mind! Every little helps... as they say! As such, the real drop-dead target is the start of the 2015 season, so exactly like Salford, ground construction is well under way by franchise application time, which will make Wakefield untouchable (and Cas too BTW if they can do the same at GH).
These temporary stands are (were), IMO, Wakefield trying everything to keep the place in SL. I think that, knowing Andrew Glover as I now do, he is a man of his word and he is delivering on the promises he made to the fans and the RFL. I also think that while it is very unlikely Newmarket will get turned down, if it did, they do have a temporary plan B to potentially buy them some more time and having 10,000 covered spectators puts many cats among pigeons come 2014 application time. I think that their future is away from Belle Vue and they know it, but if the applications are as bad as Halifax's was last time, then Wakefield, even at a patched up Belle Vue, might still be the best team for SL!

| IA, you been following the story with Monks Cross 2, Oakgate and the new community stadium at York?
If so, what do you think? Reckon the Knights will have a new home in 2014/5...?

| It would be harder to do on the WT, as the stand is significantly taller at one end than the other

| Fair play to Wakey. After years of disappointments and broken promises they're getting on with it.
Do a good enough job and they can be made permanent in two years time....

| Wakefield will have completed their away stand by 25th March aswell. I think we would be able to this very easily.. as its only cost them 300k. This is the finished stand on their West Terrace.

| Rain very rarely comes down vertically . If that is the finished article then add a gust or three of wind to the rain , and anyone standing underneath it is still going to get wet .
Are they not going to put a back wall and maybe some sides on it ?

Is that it for £300k?! like BaldRick says - I'd want some walls, and a few other bits for £300k!

I don't know if Frosties means that the away stand one yet to be done has cost £300k or whether it's just for the one in Frosties pic.
Either way there is no comparison whatsoever between the Belle Vue Western Terrace and the Headingley Western Terrace. It'll be interesting to see what kind of covering is put on the away end as that is more similar to the Headingley WT but from what I remember there are businesses rather than houses behind the Wakefield away end and IIRC there are trees already a significant height above the current stand, and no scoreboard or big screen to worry about.
So it's not as simple as saying oh well Wakey have done it.
