| JP with the runnner up James Roby ,without doubt the best hooker in the game.

| Some strange folk on here, Peacock would be the standout for me, whether he gets it or not remains to be seen given the players don't like voting for certain teams.

| Can't see there even been a debate next year. Won't be a Leeds player. Only one player going to win it for me already.

| JP has been immense this year… again and there’d be no complaints from me if he was to bag MoS but for my money this year it has to be Daryl Clark. IMO I believe he has epitomised what the MoS award is about.

| JP hasn't had the impact this year that he has had in previous years - Leeds' continued slide down the table probably reflects that too.
Playing devil's advocate - if you are going to award it for the qualities Peacock has then why not Paul Wellens - the attributes Peacock is celebrated for apply equally to Wellens and given Saints' position in the table it could argued that Wellens' contribution is greater?

The difference is that Wellens out of the Saints side, does it have a massive effect? Peacock out of the Leeds side, has a massive effect.
I think that is more the issue here, Peacocks qualities come more to the fore because he is such a stand out in our team, and so important for it. Probably put him in the Wire team or something, and playing alongside Hill, I don't believe people would be so lauding to the same degree.

My point is does Peacock's contribution look more because of the quality around him or because of his own quality. Are his performances have more quality than Wellens? Both are consummate professionals and both add massively to their team. Peacock should not be lauded because he lacks support from his team mates whereas Wellens doesn't.
This year has seen a definite drop off in his effectiveness - not surprising given his age etc. So is he getting the award out of respect for his past performances if so that is OK but it is not really what the award is about?

This is a good question and I guess a deeper one around the whole award - do you give the MoS to specifically the best player only, or do you give it to the player that has the greatest impact on those around him, even though his specific performances have been better in past years?
As a purist, I would say 'best overall player' - I guess most of the time this tends to be a player in the best / one of the best teams as the two tend to dove-tail. This being the case though, you can argue the other way and say the 'best overall player' shouldn't get the award as usually the rest of the team have played well too and helped him perform as such.
In football they tend solely to go for 'player with the biggest individual impact on the league' rather than the 'player who did really well and dragged his team-mates along as they were hopeless without him'.
This is why most of the time the football player of the year plays in the team that either dominates or does a lot better than predicted in that specific season.
I agree with Sal that JP was better last year. The thing was last year though, there were other stand-out players. This year there hasn't really been a sole dominating player so overall I can't really see anyone but JP getting it, even though he was slightly less good this time.
It is a philosophical question, I guess!

| Not sure JP has quite the big game presence he once had. Still some very good performances but although he's never gone missing for me he's been slightly less effective against the top sides. Having said that, he's been a marked man in some of those games.

| Can't Peacock be awarded the Albert Goldthorpe Medal instead?
Or is Danny Brough the permanent owner of it?
Seems to me that most of the individual gongs given out in recent seasons seem to lack as much credibility as Super League itself.

A failure to win would leave Brough with an ego as bruised as his testicles. He'd doubtless cancel league express and switch allegiance to league weekly in a trice.

Indeed, I'm sure the current Man of Steel, Albert Goldthorpe Medallist and unfortunate runner-up to Thurston and Inglis for the Golden Boot best player in the world award will not be amused. If League Express owned the Dally M, he'd have won that too, despite not playing in the NRL.
