Leeds have signed Cory Aston from Sheffield on a two year deal.

Anyone seen him play?

Was a tough season last year for Sheffield, had no strong forward pack to play off but he did well, his speed will suit Super League far better than the Championship, developing into a great kicker as well

Is he Mark Aston`s son?

Yes he is so - his father was a pretty good player if the son is of a similar quality then Leeds have signed a good addition to the squad

Could be a bit of a project signing, but we will see, some good half backs in super league stepped up from championship. Still only 21 and with lilley 19 and sutcliffe 20 these could be our starting halfs for years to come.

We have had an eye on him for a while and so have others, good prospect, there just aren't enough good English halves around so looking at championship is no bad thing.

He looks a similar build to Brierley.
Cheaper option maybe?

Does that mean we go with McGuire and Burrow/Lilley/Aston next year?
If so I think it leaves us weak in defence with nobody moving the team around the park.

Updated for Cory Aston joining the club. Means we now have 25 man squad for SL but Lilley and Hallas remain unsigned (or unannounced).

He's a Hull lad so I guess he's going back home.

Maybe we are bringing him in as cover so we can allow Lilly to go on a full year loan, which would probably develop him more than being in and out of 2 different teams with dual reg

Possibly but that leaves us with McGuire/Burrow as starting halves which I do not think is something i want to look forward to.
I know I keep saying it but I still would not be shocked to see Moon play at SO next year.

McGuire and Burrow have held shirt numbers 6 and 7 since early 2000's regardless so that won't change.

I think it's potentially a good signing. The halfback problem will be solved by getting a decent english player in there, not by signing a second rater from the NRL. So many come over and are meh, yet quite a few sl teams have had success from picking up english halves and developing them, Look at matty smith, mark sneyd, luke gayle etc. You aren't going to sign the finished product, you need to sign someone with potential and develop them in the mould of your team. If he has pace he could make a good partner for Lilley in the future.

Only real question is if Hardaker does stay, does he keep the number 1 shirt or do we demote him and give it to Sutcliffe.

Segeyaro will take the number 9 shirt.
Ferres will take 19 (or 14 if Sutcliffe moves to 1)
