| Quote: ThePrinter "The game vs Scotland the 2nd half it was so poor to see the ball just kept in the middle of the pitch when we were near Scotland's line. The only player who took it wide was Williams and he created tries (so he'll probably be dropped for defying Bennett's wish to stay in the middle). I think the only time Hall, Percival and McGillvary touched the ball in Scotland's half in the second 40 was when they did the simple task of putting the ball down...Watkins I don't think got a single pass in that half.'"
Its disappointing to see us be so one dimensional. Based on other comments by Bennet I actually have a suspicion that he doesn't trust our backs because they play in SL and therefore want to keep it in the middle.
Brisbane's backs certainly get more ball.
Another big weakness in our attack is that on the opposition line we are not attacking in successive tackles, we are attacking one side then driving it to the middle once or twice before attacking again.
This allows breathing time for the defence and if it doesn't change there is a real chance we will be restricted to one try at most.

Big surprise seeing Clark omitted with Brown playing.

Yes quite a left field selection to introduce Brown now. If it works out then it'll look like a master stroke. If it doesn't then it wasn't exactly a gimme that any other combination would've worked.
Concerned to still see him go with Hill & Graham starting with the Burgess twins to come on off the bench. That period they come on in the latter part of the first half could be crucial as we struggled vs NZ at that point.
Just hoping the Scotland performance inspired the England lads.

May have spoken a bit too soon looks like it's filled up a bit. Think the tv shots were time delayed.

Aussies Break English HeartsEngland simply needed to avoid defeat to make it through to next Sunday's Four Nations Final where they would again meet today's opponents, Australia. Any thoughts that Australia would field a weakened side were crushed when they announced their strongest line-up, the Aussies determined to make it a clean sweep of victories in the group stage.
Wayne Bennett rang the changes for England with Kevin Brown, James Graham, and John Bateman all in the starting line up with George Williams moved to the bench after his starring role last week.

| First half thought we were better side defensively and offensively, but second half we ran out of gas and ideas I think, hopefully players benefit and can turn it around for world cup next year.

| We are so desperate for a scrum half in the Cronk mould. Plenty of decent stand offs, Widdop for me is brilliant, and Williams has all the skills. But a true, proper scrum half we do miss, to allow them stand offs to run. Danny Brough with legs of a younger age would be great right now, someone of that type of ilk.
The forwards are good enough, but the egos of some need bringing down a peg or two.

I said Widdop "for me" is brilliant. So yes, IMO, he is brilliant, and by far Englands best player of the series. Like I said above, England desperately lacks a proper scrum half.

| Williams was a threat when he came on, why didn't he start, Percival had a nightmare day but will learn from the experience and come back stronger, biggest cheer of the day was for a punch replay

And some wonder why I questioned if Gotcha exaggerates his appraisals when he said Ward was "excellent" vs HKR the other year,

It's a shame daly cherry-Evans doesn't want to switch allegiance, with an English mother

That would be the same Widdop who changed the whole tenor of the game vs the Kiwis when he put a restart out on the full which arguably led to them getting back into the game against us
The same Widdop who in that same game failed to demand the ball for a drop goal attempt when we were bang in front of the posts.
And the same Widdop who when we were starting to gain some much needed momentum in the first half today failed to find touch with a penalty kick, again inviting the Aussies back into the game.
I'm not saying that we would have won either of the games but his unforced errors were not the play of someone having a brilliant series of games.
He took his try well, but then so did Hall & McGillvary.
Cameron Smith ran the game for the Aussies & it was hard to see what Bennett brought to our game that McNamara didn't do last year.
