Comparing McIlorum to Burrow is unfair. McIlorum did well in steering the pack around the park, Burrow did well in upping the tempo against tired legs. I'd say both did the job they were there to do.'"
After the Australian game I would have gone with McIlorum on the bench (Roby is a class apart) but after today I think Burrow would be the better option. Something different, something quick. It's always difficult for a 9 with unfamiliar forwards, timing etc. is a challenge, but Roby is just better in every department so you have to start with him and then you have to think about bench impact and a difference. Burrow has it.
On a more general note I was far more interested in watching Sam Tomkins play today than his brother, really enjoyed the game. It had a bit of old school aggression. Good attitude from both teams - tough and in the face. Fiji stuck at it and England didn't back down. Sensible refereeing as well.

| Watkins passing to his right is shocking at times. I think it would suit him better playing at Left centre with Hall. Burrow's support play was something England was missing in the previous two games.

| General observations from the group stages as follows:
1) In S Burgess, G Burgess, Hill and Graham England have 4 top props. Mossop and T Burgess should only get a look in if there are injuries. I much prefer Sam Burgess as prop than loose
2) Roby should play every game
3) I have actually been pleasantly surprised by Cudjoe - I have never really rated him but a few really selfish bits a play aside I think generally he has gone well
4) Sinfield has played well in every game and deserves his place on merit
5) Tomkins has been solid if unspectacular - that is not a criticism, it is just nice to know England can still turn it on without having to rely on him to do it all for us

I don't really understand the ploy of picking that type of off-the-cuff player and trying to make him play with structure as an organiser. I tend to think if you want an organiser, pick an organiser. If you want unpredictable, pick Chase and let him do what he wants.'"
I reckon Chase struck a decent balance between off-off-the-cuff and structured, probably for the first time in an England shirt. I suspect this is what he's been picked to do and, if he gets it right, it could be a potent weapon in the games to come. He wouldn't have been my first choice but I actually like the way he's starting to shape up.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

| I'm really plased that Sir. Kev is finally bringing his Leeds form for England, he's been outstanding taking the right option on pretty much all occasions, his dummy and offload for Westwood's try yesterday.
I also love his game face in the tunnel prior to the match, I could have a little bromance with him.

| I get it from other teams' fans, but Rob Burrow has played in the Leeds first team for about 13 years. How are some Leeds fans STILL unable to get his name right? Not as if it isn't written on the back of his shirt every week.

No, it's not predictive text that makes you a d1ckhead.

I agree entirely with all of the above. I've also been pleasantly surprised with Ferres.
Roby is world class and Chris Hill has been a revelation.
As to the point the OP was making about Moon whilst I accept the loss of Webb has been a factor I have been saying all season long that Moon's service to Hall has been poor. Moon's a good attacking threat on his own with good footwork but shows a lack of awareness about when to pass to his winger and how to time it. Hopefully, that will improve next year.

| How Mossop got in before Crabtree is one of life's great mysteries. I have never seen a game where I have thought Mossop did anything special.

Sinfield does almost but not quite everything Brough would have done ...... only much slower.
Burrow looking dangerous as an attacking threat running at tired forwards after the opening salvos were exchanged - who would have thought that would happen.
It's been nice to see England line-up defensively with the starting halfbacks three men in either side - a pity then that the introduction of Burrow into a hide spot caused some defensive confusion that led to the opening score from Fiji and that remains an area that will be exposed by the better teams especially if Burrow is tasked on the right alongside Watkins.

Thought there was confusion but as to the reason? well I think you made a pretty big logic jump there. I thought Westwood simply came in when not needed and left everyone else with a decision to make. Fiji exploited it perfectly - doubt even Australia could have been any more clinical.

Bang on.Crabtree has been in great form all year and has been one of the few not to look out of place in an international jersey the past 5 years.
I think Mossop is steady, he will do ok in the NRL like Luke Burgess has, but will never stand out or make a difference on the elite stage.
