On Innes I was struggling a bit for centres - he was a lovely player to watch. I always thought Iro was much better at Wigan than at Leeds where he seems not that bothered.

Could put Adrian Vowles in there. He wasn't bad, just fizzled out and left quite quickly. Or Nathan McAvoy just for a laugh although his was a decidedly odd brief encounter.

TBH a number of the signings were at the tail end f their career so the expectation shouldn't have been as high:

Thought you got very good value from Hanley and Connolly. Less so the others.

Quite a few were signed past their best. David Hulme, Mick Worrall etc.

Add Divorty to that list as well.

Context is everything though. Hulme came into a ****show and without his influence I reckon we could have got relegated. Certainly from what I can remember of that disastrous season performances picked up after he was signed. Worrall yes, not sure what Doug expected there.
Putting Hanley or Goulding in this sort of team is totally unwarranted though.

agree with that blackmore could be similar to iro both seemed to need to be upset to play stronger , innes was a wingers centre till he was leaving then scored a lot more , basnett was like we got sent his twin brother that had never played bit like getting lawford instead of lawless

Craig Innes was an outstanding signing for us and was one of the best players in the comp so I'm not sure what you're on about with this?

good shout Bullseye David Young is, add John Gallagher to that; my oh my those guys came with huge expectation , cost and fanfare from Union when i was a kid and what huge flops they were. i do wonder if they would have fared better had they joined other clubs of the time that seemed to go far better with cross over players, Widnes in particular springing to mind.

also the Wigan cast offs we seemed to pick up. Gregory, Goodway, Wane only Hanley came off really.

disagree with Innes and Iro. ok maybe Iro was a bit on and off but when on he was a treat to watch..but Innes was class most weeks from what i remember.
