| Quote The Eagle="The Eagle"People seem to lay the squad at mcdermotts door. Its always been hetherington who controls the squad. Mcdermott just mis-manages it'"
It's not actually true anymore. Hetherington has done numerous functions this year where he has stated that team affairs he rarely gets involved in anymore, and the whole rugby side is controlled by Brian.

| Quote LeedsDave="LeedsDave"Hurray another thread on the same topic.
For what it's worth, I think we have to give Mac another season. Let's see how he can handle next year as, without the 'challenge cup elephant in the room' pressure on the team, we surely have to be finishing 1st or 2nd to mount a serious challenge.
Bringing in someone else now wouldn't benefit us IMO.
But I know that doesn't sit well with the football fans who think it's the only solution to rotate coaches every 6 months.'"
6mths?
He has been here a bit longer than that and IF he stays another year then whoever comes in has literally a new Team to construct in his first year!
There are big changes to be made over the next 1-2 years do you see MC at the helm to make them?
Personally I don't but at the same time should he stay then the "Coaching set up" needs sorting the "as and when" part time help is ridiculous we got away with it in the first half of the season when everyone was fit and firing & CC in one off games but when we hit the wall form wise in the SL we had nothing to fall back on from a tactical pov.
He has his favourites but as we have seen over the latter course of the regular season that hasn't worked and his "machines" have hit a wall!
The King is dead long live the King!

| Time for some new ideas (or maybe some old ones). Smith and Bluey had their moments and moved on at the right time. This is the right time for McD to move on with a very proud record. Not a criticism of the man, just the nature of the job he does.

| Whatever happens i don't see him going beyond the end of next year.I could easily see a scenario where Mcdermott becomes the next England coach and that post could very well become available in November.
Who do people think we will/should go for as our next coach? Whoever it is, they are going to have a big job on that's for sure and GH is going to have to blow the cobwebs off his cheque book for the first time in a while.

| If I had to put money on what's going to happen it'd be another season of McDermott then Sinfield retiring from playing and taking over, possibly alongside a "football consultant" like Tony or Brian Smith. This could happen earlier with Kev as player/coach if we start next season badly.

Sinfield as already advised the club of retiring end of 2016, and is not having anything at all to do with coaching. That he is clear on.

I'd like to see someone like Maguire ( a hot sh*t nrl assistant who needs to prove himself as a head coach before getting nrl gig) for a few seasons with someone internal as assistant who will take over when he goes.

I actually think he would make a great England coach, he is a great motivator for big games and creates good team spirit and as stated a siege mentality, it's the week to week games he seems to struggle with.

| For every Maguire though there's a Peter Gentle, Craig Sandercock or Matt Parish. Whomever the next Leeds coach is has a huge job, it's arguably it's the most crucial decsion GH will have to make so far.

| Why would McD move on there's not many gigs in his field and very few become available.
If he goes what would his next assignment be.

| What's the average tenure for a Super League coach? 2-3 years?
It's traditionally a short space of time for a reason. He's done his time for me, if a option to take us forward is available i would look at it.
Under Mac's tenure, you can't fault his return in terms of trophies. But the quality of rugby (i.e. value for money of a season ticket, quality of games and enjoyment) hasn't been great.
