Interesting article from the YEP who attended a recent CTSC media event aimed at finding out the concerns of the supporters regarding the future of Super League:-
www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/s ... -1-4553568
I am surprised that most who attended were in favour of a 2 tier SL – in which CT would be demoted to the 2nd division.

| Its disappointing MDean.
There is a saying that goes "It's not the size of the Tiger in the Fight but the size of the Fight in the Tiger". There was even a book called this by Mark Hudson about Castleford Tigers.
Where is the fight in the Tigers fans gone ?

| I was lamenting the journalist to be honest.
I do agree though, I think that Rugby League fans and Tigers fans woudl be better figuring out what they can and in fact will do, not moaning about what is wrong.

| The article misses out the fact that Cas fans did not say they preferred a ten team league at all. Had I had my own way (and an evening to ask questions all myself) I would have pointed out the flaw that having system would merely see the top level increase their cap more and the bottom division acting exactly the same as the Championship is now, except on a full-time basis and with a little more cash. It serves no purpose and would not benefit the game in the slightest. We need three full-time divisions whereby the gap between each salary cap is negligible or little so that clubs can transition up and down the leagues in a fluid, smooth fashion.
The issue with promotion and relegation in its previous guise was that clubs coming up could not necessarily build up the corporate base and/or financials to sustain the cap in the first year, nor did they have a profile to compete in the signings mark.
With the more fluid model, it would allow us to scrap the nonsensical ruling that if anyone is relegated all contracts become null and void.

| Just copy the NRL/American sports model, you have the current teams in the league, keep it at that.
If a team goes into admin, bye bye you can't afford to stay in the league/team relocates
If the demand for the league increases, you add more teams
If there's an area that can supply a Super League team and operate it properly, let them in.
Expansion is done on a gradual basis and not the shotgun approach the RFL love.

| I personally feel it's a good idea. We are currently unable to compete with the best in SL and probably won't be able to start doing so until we get our new stadium. Having a 2 tier SL comp with all sides still franchise based and receiving an equal split of the tv money and with full promotion and relegation would be great. Firstly it would give teams in the championship the chance to compete with the sl2 teams for franchises, whilst also allowing for teams from sl2 to push into the top flight once ready to compete with full salary cap expenditure.
As long as that's how it works and how it's maintained then I think it will be good for the game. If the sl1 becomes a closed shop and they don't have promotion and relegation between the two then I'm not too sure. I guess they could have various levels of franchise you need to be at to apply for each league (I.e. to apply for sl2 you need to be at c level and a or b for sl1) but I much prefer the promotion and relegation idea.
