| I would personally rather we give another youngster a chance. He has burnt all his bridges for me and the money would be better spent elsewhere. Too much baggage.

| If Darren Lockyer or Andrew Johns had that much baggage and bad press - I would say no thank you when you consider the number of young people who watch our sport and aspire to emulate their on field heros.
And lets be fair, good though he was, Gleeson aint in their category. He would seem to be one of those (and I said it on another thread and I wont go on) persistent victims or circumstances, "yeah, that bad thing happened but it wasnt really my fault" happy retirement Martin.

I am not going to make a comparitive list of Wakey miscreants, because I am bigger than that and I woudl not like to speak ill of people in their absence.
Dwayne Chambers was about publicity he was never going to play and messed about at a trial level, so that is a moot point. Ryan Hudson, and thank you for proving my point, attracted the attention once, owned up and did it in a fashion that befits a sportsman of his standing at the time, said it wasnt deliberate, but took it on the chin, went away and came back professional and conducted himself away from the game impeccably. It is not like he is serially in the wrong place, wrong time, attracting the kingd of press Gleeson does.
there are those who cant seem to get away from bad press. Appreciated your reply, made my point for me.

| Personally I don't have an issue with him training with us in August.
As long as we're not paying him and we don't offer him a contract at the end of it he can do what he likes!!

| Do we need this n0b head around at Cas ? Why risk all the good work that is going on and what message does it send out to everyone.
I cant see what good this can do for our youngsters.

| BY the time he is allowed back he will be nearly 31 (if not already) and would be a complete waste of money, we would be better off using the resource to get someone that can actually begin the season rather than be allowed to play when the season is already over.
Or as others have said, get one of the youngsters in, who will give their all and play with pride

I wish more fans and club administrators (including my own) would have this attitude - I'm not in favour of throwing people on the scrap-heap when they make a mistake, but we'd do our reputation as a sport no harm at all if we closed the door to the serial idiots who continually bring their club(s), and by extension the sport, into disrepute.
So long as there are clubs who are prepared to take a punt however, there is no incentive to take a tougher stance; sacking a player is akin to handing competitive advantage to a direct rival and nobody wants to do that.

I would like to think as fans we can do our part, I would never especially boo one of our players, but there are those players whom I would never cheer, buy a shirt with their name on or go in for any kind of hero worship....
Yet as you say, there are those clubs and I would argue Coaches and Managers who value the notoriety, publicity and the short term gain over their long term credibility and reputation and that of our sport!

Correct. Ellery Hanley is probably the best example I can think of. He did some time, learnt his lesson and went on to become one of the best players of the 80s. A second chance is fine, but a fourth chance is pushing it a bit.

| Would like to think Cas will have a few more Shenton like potentials waiting to come through rather than throwing money at this waste of talent.
