| Quote: deeHell "I think it would be safe to say that 22K that signed the petition was coerced/swayed by the fact it would supposedly deliver funding for a new ground. Many people don’t seem to understand the negative effect on local communities that Supermarkets have. In fact jobs will be lost from the local community because big Supermarkets with bulk buying power don’t tend to use small local suppliers, out sourced work will tend to go to outside contactors where as local business tend to deal local. The whole eco system of the community economy is shattered. Just have a search on the web for a few documentaries on what Wal-Marts effect on small communities has in the USA it's real eye opener. Supermarkets do not bring wealth to the local community they suck wealth from it. You could say that it's a negative sum game really, because money goes from the local community to big faceless corporations that don't really give anything back. The last thing a town like Cas needs is a Supermarket within walking distance of the town. It's like saying the opening of Trinity Walk was good business for the Ridings.
People in planning are quite aware of the economic argument which is why I find it hard to believe that the chance of a Public Enquiry are slim. I'm no expert on this process but considering the argument I expect the chances of a PI to be quite big.'"
The circumstances surrounding this are considerably different. Castleford, as it is now, has very limited shops that people actually want to go to in the town centre. The only possible opposition is the market traders and they are actually on board as are many other community organisations, who may or may not have a vested interest in CTRLFC but do have a vested interest in Castleford as a town.
As such, I don't believe it will be sucking people out of the town centre; again, let's look at Pontefract - I don't think that seems to have suffered despite all the aforementioned supermarkets in my post above. In short, the development could have an opposite effect - creates more jobs, more money in the area, more people spending money in Castleford. Not just that, the whole waterside will be developed down there and will be turned into a thriving mix of retail, industrial and waterside housing.
See the article above for the ambitions shown by the council to create a sustainable, viable and progressive future to start rebuilding Castleford (and its image).

| If an application by Opus is submitted in accordance with local and national planning guidlines in relation to a Special Policy Area there will be no Public Inquiry, no matter what commercial objections Asda may have.
IMHO
Unlike Newmarket, WR is not Greenbelt.

The only banter I will put down is that in terms of plans; our stadium is easily better & our site blows yours out of the water! I would put money on CT using the training facilities as much as WT!- But then they're yours too you know!
Are you on drugs ?, a scrounged pityard better than a self funded site ....................... get real sonny, you shouldnt even be in the league, the taffs collapse gave you a false license.
I pity you and the rest of the unwashed poleys

| Reading between the lines here seems to me like Wakey fans are getting increasingly desperate that Cas groundshare with them...why? Living where I do in the north of Scotland, getting to games is never easy but I will never travel to watch any future Cas team playing their home games anywhere other than in Cas.

BA This may well be end up a bit of revenge on ASDAs part. irc when they first wanted to build the new store they were looking at building somewhere near where B&Q is. Unfortunately for them Tesco and Morrisons both complained that it would be too close to them in Ponte, and may lose them trade!
I agree with you the fact that WR isn't greenbelt will mean that it'll certainly not go to PI, unless something drastic materialises.

Since it was me who started the thread, i will explain why i did it.
As much as i can see every reason why we would all be better off with our own grounds, and i can, merger terrifies me just as much as anyone else, i also think that this year, the rfl may well get tough with either of us if we fail to deliver.
Im fairly confident our plan will go off according to the plan we have, which is fairly short term and thats fine.
I dont know about yours, not because i think it wont or anything like that, just simply because i dont know anything about it (im sure many who gob off in defiance, know equally as little).
But heres the thing, as much as we are all positive about our respective clubs plans, there is a chance of failure from either or both clubs, and if it were to happen what would either club be prepared to do, to either protect their SL status or their identity or whatever, which would be the most important aspect?
I asked the question firstly on our forum, we got some cas views, including an invitation or suggestion that i should ask the question on here, so i did.
So that is the reason why, not out of desperation (perhaps boredom!!!) not out of any antagonistic wish, just simply, what would you do if this happened? obviously i asked it from a wakey point of view (although i altered the poll a little for on this forum, just to make it a bit more relivent) because i am a wakey fan.
At the end of the day, i 100% genuinely hope that both clubs get their own grounds, but lets not kid ourselves that either of us are guaranteed to, because there is a lot of other influences, wether that be the economy, supermarkets, planning, finances or public inquiries.
I always think its worth debating any situation, i certainly dont know all the facts and i doubt anyone who is stupid to "guarantee" either of the plans does.
Equally i cant stop moronic clods from either side who wish to turn it into a who can pi$$ higher competition, but i take solice in the fact that those who usually shout the loudest, have little to shout about or have little if any grasp on the situation.
