The picture below is the Castleford NU team that played Knottingley in the Yorkshire Junior Cup on 22nd Jan 1910.
Castleford won (39-0) but the match had to be replayed due to Knottingley objecting to ineligible players (T. Walton - Dewsbury), J Harris (St Helens), G Unsworth (Hull KR) and J Unsworth (Wakefield T.) being named.
The players are as follows:
Back row: Willoughby (secretary), Taylor, Hinton, J. Unsworth, Brunyee (Brunyard?) and Cole
Middle row: Harris, Higgins, T. Walton (Capt.), G. Unsworth and Cockerham
Front row: G Cookson, Carter and Muscroft
Can anyone confirm that:
1) The Cole pictured on the back row, far right is Isaac Cole
(He played for Castleford RU 1904, Castleford NU 1904-06, Huddersfield 1906-08, Wakefield 1910-1911, Keighley 1913 & 1921, War years York & Halifax 1917).
2) He also played in the Billy Batten X111 v Halifax (Ernest Whitehouse benefit match) on 21st Dec 1919. This is noted as the first game of rugby to be played at Wheldon Road - Is this correct?
