Walmsley, who worked under current Shay boss Karl Harrison at Batley, will take over some duties which have been performed by the club’s conditioner, Nigel Halmshaw.
“I don’t think we used Nigel to our best advantage this year,” admitted Harrison.
“Essentially we were probably a little bit understaffed and having Lee on board will help to rectify that.
“He’ll basically take control of the players who are on rehabilitation programmes after injury, making sure they do what they need to do and freeing Nigel up to focus on the things that he does best.
“Lee’s a Halifax lad as well, which is always a bonus.”
