| Malta beat Norway the other week 30-20 in the Euro Bowl. However this weekend sees Serbia take on the Czech Republic in Prague. Serbia will start out as favourites for this one and should at least win the Group. Germany face Serbia next week in Belgrade.
Serbia coach Marko Jankovic is eager to test his young charges and has named Dalibor Vukanović as captain and ex-Whitehaven prop Soni Radovanović as vice captain. Serbia have a domestic League which features Dorcol Spiders as Champions but also has Red Star Belgrade, Novi Sad, Belgrade Uni amongst others running teams. The Serbs also have a U16s League up and running. The Serbs have a number of locals who have played Rugby League in England and France and are firm favourites to win the Group.
The Czechs say they are ready for everything the Serbians are set to throw at them.“The team is waiting for a really tough opponent on Saturday,” said Beroun Panthers’ Michal Priputen, who scored a try and kicked two goals in the Czech Republic’s 56-16 loss to Serbia three years ago.“On paper they are the favourites but each match is different and chances are equal,” he added. Priputen has done some excellent development work over the past couple of years alongside Andy Mulhall. A number of the Czech Army now are playing Rugby League and they also have a good youth development programme going on.
Germany coach Danny Stocks included veteran Simon Cooper who is on the brink of becoming the first German player to take his international appearances into double figures. Cooper featured for Halifax U21s, Greetland and Illingworth before moving to Germany where his father is from.Player-coach Stocks has added Jonas Burkhardt to the squad after he impressed for Hochspeyer Sharks who were runners up at the recent Heidelberg 9’s. South Wales Scorpions Coach Anthony Seibold is set to feature again for Germany alongside his brother Damien Seibold. Germany are expected to also give a debut to 19 year old Thomas Isaak. At 2 metres tall and weighing 115 Kg, the former Handball player is looking forward to using his size to good effect!

| As expected Serbia hammered Czech Republic 4-56 in Prague. Should of been 90 or 100 according to reports as Serbia only led 4-16 at half time and struggled to get going in the first 40! They have a number of players with experience in UK and France and it shows.
Germany now face the daunting task of playing Serbia in Belgrade on Saturday. Realistically we will struggle as we do not have the experience of the Czech Republic and we are missing some of our more experienced guys like Micky Reinhold (Knee), Anthony Seibold (Coaching South Wales), Liam Doughton (Dislocated Shoulder), Dean Scutthorne (At a Wedding), Markus Keinhorst (Work Commitments), Sebastian Vermaat ( Work Commitments). However we do have a big physical side and maybe can match the physical side of things. We have for example big Thomas Isaak at 2 Metre and 115 Kg and Dan Stocks another 100Kg Prop. We also have a proper standoff for the first time with Damien Seibold who has payed his own way across to play for Germany. The Rockhampton Brothers player has plenty of experience at 6 as well as 13. So maybe Germany can match Serbia if they have an off day and we just do the basics right.
