???? Ikram Butt was the first Muslim to play for a Professional England National team in any sport I believe. Ikram played at Leeds Rhinos and Fev Rovers and was one of the toughest and best English Centres in his day. Also a decent bloke apparently and has done probably more than anybody in trying to develop Rugby League amongst the Asian Community. I think he is working for Leeds Rhinos in developing the game amongst Ethnic Minority People in the Leeds area. Ikram has a Brother Tony who also played at Leeds a few years back

A place I used to work had an Amir Butt. No, I'm not making it up!

Ikram is a development officer in Bradford. He is a thoroughly decent chap if slightly disorganised at times. I remember him playing more as a winger then a centre though! Tony actually played for Leeds before Ikram but because he had an english first name it wasn`t noticed so much. Ikram wrote a book I believe can`t remember the title.

Thanks for the replies.. as I said it just sounded like a made up name. Unfortunatley I hadn't heard of the bloke in question but I'll take your word on it that he was a top player.

He also played for Yorkshire Schools at Rugby Onion. Only started playing RL at U15 level.

Ikram Butt was the examiner in charge when I took my coaching badge. Nice guy but his examining skills couldn't have been upto much. He passed me.
