Been wondering if this is a reasonable date (mid-season) for contracts to be up.

Doesnt happen in football or the kick & clap so why us? Is it a left over from the winter days?

Surely it would be better to have contracts to end say end of Sept, that way will give clubs time to build, especially those who are granted SL licences & it will also stop players becoming enticed elsewhere destabalising clubs & the players minds mid season, after all Penky has said it had been playing on his mind leading up to the contract signing... maybe it's a possible reason why we seem a little flat recently?

Not sure what you mean here. All that can happen is that clubs can start recruiting for next year. The rules of contracts within RFL guidelines state the following:

C1:1:8 EXPIRY DATE OF CONTRACTS
All contracts with Players (and any extensions thereof) shall expire at the end of the contract period which (except in the cases of weekly or Conditional Contracts) shall be 30 November in any given year.

In football a Player can negotiate with other clubs when there is only 6 months remaning on his contract. I think It all comes from the Bosman case years ago, so it's probably in Law somewhere that clubs can approach players in any sport.

You make it sound as if contracts are valid documents within the game of RL........

its same as those who have signed new contracts but will have getout clause if SL team come calling.

What we (and everyone else) will be doing is snapping up our players before the anti tampering deadline passes and other clubs will be able to talk to our players who's contracts are be up for renewal.

Shouldn't be contracts at all. Should be like the good old days, don't play, no pay. It's a tough old world ... innit.

I n the old days they still had a contract but they signed to a club for life a player could only move if a club sold you or let you go and yes it was tough .
