| So we are all annoyed at the officials today, we got pinged for offside how many times to Widnes's ZERO, a bit odd that ???
This makes me wonder are we a lazy team not retiring the 10 or are we too keen coming out of the line??
Or are we just unlucky???
I really don't know but its killing us either way, I cannot believe we were worse than Widnes for offside today but are we worse???
Anybody?

| Cullen has us very disciplined in terms of getting on side and not giving away any pens. You wouldnt believe how many times he's banged on about it, Fax have some big fellas who struggle to get back in defence at times thus you get penalised.

| But it's mainly the backs and hookers who get pulled. No pun intended.

| I've stopped short at criticising the officials at yesterday's match because it's extremely rare, infact I've never seen it, when watching a match as a neutral on the telly that a ref is biassed towards one team or the other. When a team is getting penalised to death and you hear cries of horror from the "victimised" set of fans in question, I can honestly say that the ref is actually right ... the offending team actually ARE offending. And ... as I've mentioned on another thread ... 2 of our tries were dodgy to say the least ... one try was definitely offside following a kick through and my immediate reaction when Black scored his try was that it was crossing. The touchie thought so too but the ref over ruled him. Don't get me wrong, I was as frustrated as anyone at the high penalty count against us and was spitting chips at the ref, but in calm light of day I don't think we can really blame the ref.

I dont blame the ref whatsoever for our loss, we had many opportunites to win the game.
However
What really riled me, and the people sat around me was the fact that there was at least 7 high tackles in the first 15 minutes that went completely unpunished.
Our offsides that were penalised, in my opinion, were offide, so we should have no issue with that whatsoever, but there were many, many similary positions from Widnes that went completely unpunished.
Said was penalised for not playing the ball correctly, which gave Widnes a penalty some 15 yards away from our line. There were many many other simlar plays of the ball from both Widnes and Halifax throughout the game.
Like I said I dont blame the ref, but what we, as spectators, want is some level of consistency. If he is going to penalise one offence then he has to be conistent and penalise all other such offenses.

| I honestly thought the ref was very poor yesterday, not biased but poor! He never gave a penalty for not being square at the play of the ball even though both side were hardly ever square! He also missed numerous tackles around the neck as well as 2 or 3 crossing incidents! The list goes on and on! He can't be blamed for the result however as we just blew too many of the chances we created! Calmer heads are needed in certain situations!!

| To Be Honest, we've been getting pulled for offside quite a bit recently, are we trying to get away from the line a bit too quick?

| I can accept us being pulled up for being offside, what I cant accept is the ref not penalising them for the same offence. No team will go through a game without being offside.

And umpteen high shots on Gleese and Black who they were clearly targeting. Having said that, we had enough chances to win we just had no luck.

Funny how you always see the high shots on your own players but never on others..
The number of times that Gaskell and Dodd took a high shot was similarly disappointing.

It's true I didn't see them but I how many penalties did we get for a high shot? None. I'm pretty sure you got 2 at least. Anyway don't listen to me I'm still bitter

I've been bitter since 22nd July 2008 mate so no worries on that front.
From what I recall you did get a high shot penalty down near your end although I can't remember who it was or who it was given against...
It did seem an unusually low penalty count for us but I know Cullen has taken to smartening up the discipline in a big way. An indication of how much this has improved is Mr penalty himself Lee Doran.. He would have been responsible for at least half a dozen penalties normally but he kept his nose clean yesterday.

| Instead of Doran, you had Koe Love who went high & grappled in nearly every tackle in the 1st half, some right infront of the tj's. Over 3000 people saw it except for 3 inept officials who were out of their depth in such a big game yesterday!

ha ha... I thought the attendance was 3,900 odd seeing as there were between 1,500 and 2,000 odd Widnes fans ( a figure from a Leigh fan) there yesterday meaning only 2,400 would have seen it tops.. more likely 1,900..
Get your blinkered spectacles off. There was plenty of tackling up top but it was all in an attempt to stop the ball from being released (a problem we have suffered with recently) the fact it was right in front of the TJ's should tell you it was legit.
Get over it and move on.

Well that was an estimate put forward from a Leigh fan (and one that's not a great fan of Widnes) stood in the South Stand..
Interestingly enough the South stand seems comparable to the North stand in size so that makes 2,000 for the two. The west stand doesn't look like it can hold more than 1500 going from your figures which would mean that the new East stand will have to hold 11,500 to get near the SL standard?? Even if you add an extra 2,000 to the South stand to be generous and a 1,000 to the West stand then your new stand would still need to hold 8,500..
So either the North stand holds a lot more than 1020 or your new stand won't bring the capacity up to SL standard.

They never filled it last time and, clearly the people who matter, (The RFL) regard it as good enough for the event.
Stobart Stadium
North – 4,200
South – 3,670
West – 3,030
East – 2,450
Combined – 13,350
With room to expand in the corners if necessary.

Its all to do with Toilet facilities ect. When we were in Super League and they hired in the PortaLoos up the back it increased the capacity of that stand by quite a bit. but the cost involved was also quite high.

According to the PUFF BALL fans they paid for it all .
So it's all their fault.
Therefor common sense dos'nt come in to it at all.
