Just looking through some old articles on the main club site and the mere mention of `blue sox` makes my blood boil. Why did we ever allow this to happen? The people or persons responsible (they know who they are) should be ashamed of themselves. I can remember it now...those hoardes of fans we had that were alienated over night through the sheer embarrassment of the name. Wasnt there a competition for the name and i think Halifax Flyers won and the un named idiot came up with Blue so........aarrgghh!!!!

I remember a "fans forum" up at Greetland, I asked Nigel Wood why he decided the name Bluesox, he answered by talking "corporate Bulls**t", as an answer

It might well be old news but this is a forum and some of us are new to it... be nice!!

I had a similar response when I interviewed him for a college project, he got a strop on when I asked him what exactly Sox meant and why did the club choose such an unmarketable name.

I loved the name so much I got the logo tattoo-ed on my leg

id prefer if we were still blue sox i loved it

The name had 'some' logic, it just doesn't work as it was the wrong sport in the wrong country.

I interviewed him for similar reasons....just as the name had been chosen....still got the tape somewhere.

Blue for starters ! Not that I think anything is logical marketing wise, a gamble more like.

OK the Blue part fair enough but Sox??? Could have gone with Blues Brothers

Nigel Wood was the Gordon Brown of Rugby League .... totally incompetent but still thought he was good and that it was everyone else who were the clueless 'nob 'eds. But despite everything still had his supporters (eg Office Boy). The state of the club now compared to the state of the club when Mr Full of Sh!te Clown was around just says it all ... no argument needed ... discussion "N/A". Dark days indeed.

The thing is with Nigel Wood, he's actually a very nice guy if you ever meet and talk to him. It's just some of his ideas and some of the things he does which make him a bit of a to$$ pot.

I had heard a lot about him before I met him and was quite looking forward to meeting this monsterous ogre, but he's far from it.

And Jeffrey Dahmer was a "nice guy" but he went around killing and eating people. It's a funny ol' world, ain't it just?

I don't see why folks still give Wood the bird, You can't be so sure of all the work he did at Halifax rlfc otherwise you wouldn't call him. I'm not defending him, hell, he made my dad redundant while working for the club during his time at Halifax as CEO, sometimes that's aprt of the game, but I'm sure he didn't do it out of spite or dislike, maybe it was a business reason, which ties us into the other popular thread on here at the moment, keeping the club alive financially......

It always reminded me of the well known fairy story " The Kings New Clothes" there were a few around him that believed it but when he was exposed to the masses "he was in the alltogether".

AGREED!!! I have met him on a couple of occassions. Decent enough bloke but simply he has little idea of the real world. I blame him for a few things that went wrong but then there were many who should shoulder the blame which saw us heavily in debt and having to make very poor decisions- the way TH was sold and the way many people were not happy and vowed never to go to The Shay etc and money going in to a black Hole, Stupid Name that was very hard to Market. There are many questions about this time that simply will never be answered for example.

Having somebody who is incompetant as I feel Nigel Wood was as CEO alongside others at Fax at that time made life a struggle forever more. How could he and the Board for example let us get over 1 Million in debt? Why the name "Blue Sox" that had no real connection with the Sport or the local area and that annoyed many fans?

Remember the ill fated Huddersfield Barracudas in the 80s!
