PREMIERSHIP standard catering is set to come to the Shay.

Calderdale Council cabinet has chosen Event Management Catering as the preferred contractor for banqueting and hospitality at the ground.

Calderdale Council's leader, Stephen Baines, said: "The council is transforming the Shay into a seven-day venue, providing accessible sporting, conference, banqueting and learning facilities of which Calderdale can be proud.

"When the Shay's East Stand is completed, the stadium will be able to offer high-quality banqueting facilities for up to 300 covers and a range of meeting and function rooms.

"We will be providing a top-class venue for meetings and functions, so it is important that we also offer catering of the highest quality."

Contract negotiations will now start for the operation of the business.
EMC already provides catering at nine other sports grounds – eight of which are along the M62 corridor – including the KC Stadium, home of Premiership team Hull City, Championship sides Burn-ley and Doncaster Rovers, and League Two Bradford City's Coral Windows Stadium at Valley Parade.

EMC was selected as preferred bidder after a two-stage selection process. [size=150The East Stand should be finished in November and open by Christmas[/size.

Nearly £5 million is being spent on the stadium to complete the stand, install seats for 3,500 fans, and create bars, changing rooms, the banqueting suite, and a terrace opening out over the pitch.

Its ok, theres plenty of quality pubs within 10 minutes walk of the ground, we'll all wind up in them



Just out of interest, what will happen to the Southstand Lounge when the new contract starts?

they could make it into the club shop, the one out near the turnstyles is very small. i think t would be good to turn it inot the club shop.

That was my immediate thought having seen the company involved. Chicken balti pies are good though (albeit not worth £2.75!)

Does this spell the end of chilli & chips at 'Fax?

Not a patch on Batley, mind, but 100 times better than EMC. Be interesting to see whether they operate it like the LSV and rip everyone off, or make a bit of an effort like they do at Donny and do specials etc.

Event Management Catering have got the contract and then they sub contract it out, cause i know our current burger van team are very interested in carrying on so hopefully not an end to chiili and chips

but will it be super league standard in the next round of bids

The Current Burger Van would probably continue to pay a site fee. but to the Catering Company rather than the Stadium Company. I think that would be how it works.

as far as know the bar will still continue under the stand as wont be any other bar other than the function suite.

Didn't sample Fev on my last visit, will have to give it a go next week. Not been to York for years but I've yet to find a club with better catering than Batley - the sole reason I want them to stay up

Fev Pie Hut in the corner at the bottom of the hill is always Worth a Visit.

Batley, as you say is always good, Chip Buttys from that Kitchen are always a good thing.

I remember a few years ago when Hull KR did ROast beef Baguettes in that Upstairs Bar, now that was top nosh.

You can still eat in the town centre or The Shears, Drink at the Pump Room, 3 Pigeons, Shears or any off the othe good (or crap if you like) pubs.

I know the hut you mean. They had a sign up for Meat and Potato pies, so my mate ordered one, and they said they only had Potato and Meat ones left. So he had to make do.

For The Shears. Come out of the Car Park (where the turnstiles for the South Stand are) and cross the Road, turn right then left (sort of around the Block of Flats. Follow this road down the hill taking the left when it forks by a mill, down the hill and round the corner and its there. Someone could probably post a better description than me.

Real Ale & Good Food, Though I'm told it gets busy on a Sunday Lunch, though we often eat there before Thursday Games but its best advised to arrive in plenty of time.

Shay Pub, is still open I think, but not been in for years, can't see why anyone would want to with the 3 pigeons and the pump room so near.

Must admit we go in the Shay if we're on the minibus, but Pump Room then Three Pigeons if on the rattler.
