| I am surprised nobody has brought this up yet.
I was gutted yesterday, not because we lost but the way we lost.
A Drop Goal is fair enough and if it had been at the end of the 80 minutes or extra time I would have no complaints.
But after 3 minutes when one team has lost the toss (I presume we did) and has to kick the ball to the other team its a high probability that the team receiving the ball will win.
That is totally naff way of sorting out the best team.
Yer I know it could have been us who had won but I would in all honesty be saying the same. As I said to some Cas fans after the game I hope they don't go through the pain of losing the way we did yesterday.
Surely it should be decided by extra time or a replay?
10 minutes each way extra time would be fairer, then if the teams are still locked and one scores a drop goal then fair enough, at least the opther team had THE CHANCE to win the game.
I would say the golden point will be won by the team who get the ball at the kick off 8 out of 10 times.
thats not a fair way of deciding a game, no way.
RFL why change the rules? Did anyone think this through?
I doubt it, but I do hope that this rule is dropped and they go back to extra time like when Leeds beat Saints in the semi finals a few years ago.

| You are correct.
The host team should also be announcing the correct info over the tannoy and not telling everyone it's ten minutes each way.

| It was suggested yesterday that the Golden Point should be decided by a 'TRY'. No penalty goals or drop goals. Pure and simple; next TRY wins.
I'd go for that.

| its appears that the RFL had it down as ten mins each way in their rules then golden point yesterday on their site. now rules have been changed today to just golden point.
announcers may have been right for then but not after rule change last night.
was 2008 rules on the site but now 2009 rules.

| Fax fans you have every right to feel hard done by.
2 years ago I went to a 2nd round tie between Dudley Hill and Castleford Lock Lane. That game also went to extra time, about 5mins into the 1st period Lock Lane kicked a penalty, but the game continued untill the end of the 2nd period. Had the scores still been level, then golden point would have come into play.
Your game should have carried on after the dropgoal. and I agree it should be decided on a try not a drop goal or a penalty.
I also cant understand why there cant be a replay. In the programme for the final theres always a date advertised for a reply if required, so why not in the other rounds.
Someone yesterday messed up or its another RFL mess up.

| If I were still on the board, I'd be demanding an explanation of the c0ck up and going for a replay.
Everybody was livid that they were told it was 10 mins each way and wasn't it just 50 seconds into the extra time, when it was then announced that it would be golden point. Low and behold less than 5 seconds later they welly the ball.

Me too. The RFL bunch were sat directly behind us you should have seen the mood change between them when we came back toward the end . Up to then it was just another jolly day out ,at the final whistle they were all looking like slapped mokeys and one of them ran onto the pitch. I do not think our players were fully prepared for the ramifications of loseing the toss (that is if there was one) as an anouncement had been made it was to be 10min each way. I would object most strongley they ought to get their act together it`s time people started to question these rules they keep introducing don`t tell me everyone voted for that too at these RFL away days.Would have been nice to have had a replay at home.

| I think you deserve one.
remember the tri-nations final a couple of years ago. That went to golden point extra time, but it ended up been a try that won it deep inside the 1st period, which is fair enough. But a dropgoal just over 1 minute into extra time is a poor way to decide the game, especially when it was anounced it would be 10mins eachway. Should be golden try, not golden point.

Well they say everything that glistens isn`t gold and it`s certainly true in this case the RFL had reps there but it was shambolic at the end.Me thinks the "Golden Point" could just be plated and appears to be peeling off by the looks of things.I can just imagine it in a scene from an Abbot and Costello movie.
"yes Nigel that`s another fine mess you`ve got us in".

| Can't everyone stop moaning ffs? It's taking the gloss off a great performance by the team.
Not a good way to lose I agree, but the way one team was always going to lose according to the rules, which, at the end of the day, the players, coaches and officials knew, and were the same for every club in every game of the round.
The single problem was that the PA man was badly briefed and didn't make the situation clear to the crowd at the outset. That's Cas's fault, no-one else's.
The (SL) coaches don't want replays - they think they already play too many games - and they're the people with the sway. They're the ones who've brought about this rule.

| OB, are you sure that the players knew that it was the golden point regardless of what was announced? If they were, then that'll do me.
Ok, it robbed me of another 20 minutes of great RL. but I certainly got the impression that nobody knew until the announcement.

Got to agree with OB on this one. When I woke up and saw the score I was really pleased that we had shown that we can compete at that level and was proud of the team. To my mind this was just a distraction from the priority which if getting to the GF.
Lets say that they had have gone for the 10 mins extra time each way. What do you think the final score would have been then? As much as we had competed over the 80, fitness levels and being full time would have really shown in the extra 20. I'm sure nobody would have been happy with a 50-34 scoreline and all the bleating would have been about 'not being a true reflection of the game.'
Just be proud of what the team did and lets move on. Bigger fish to fry and all that.

So according to you we just accept this total abortion of a rule then cos our lads played so well????
Yer I have said on other threads how well the lads played this is about a stupid rule okay?
We are not all like some people who do not have have not an honest bone in their body, some of us have some integrity and I DO MEAN I would be saying the same if we had won.

Look like I have put in reply to OB we are all well happy how our lads played and yes I agree we are probably better off out of the Cup so we can focus on the NRC and Championship BUT we can discuss a rule that I think is an ass and hope the RFL review it so no other players (and fans) lose the way we did.

That dos'nt wash, I personally talked to at least 4 of the players straight after the game. The only thing they were aware of was two 10 minute periods, then the GP. Plus there was the fact as we were playing so well that it could have been us who ended up with 50 points.

Well I don`t think for one minute anybody is not pleased with our lads ,it is well documented from all of us how proud we all were of them .But I do beg to differ about our fitness levels as opposed to thiers. We were at Castlefords hospitality on Saturday and in the room after the match there were Castleford people and an ex -player of ours who were saying our fitness was better than Cass` at the end .
Also this is a public debate forum and whichever side had lost it was not a fair way to end a match like that .If people are not allowed to debate a rule and voice concerns if they think it is wrong how do you ever get it changed or at least try to.
I will also say the announcer was probably wrongley briefed but as the RFL official was on the pitch when it ended he should have made sure everyone on and off the pitch was fully aware of the situation.

Did the person briefing the officials even know the rules? Did he brief them correctly? Why were the rules on the RFL website changed on Sunday when we played on Saturday?

I e-mailed the RFL with those very same questions after the match at best it was another shambles you would think if they changed the rules it would be on their own website. As yet I have not recieved a reply but as I never do I will not be holding my breath.

| I agree 100% with OB on this one. I reckon if the announcer had got the announcement right the first time this wouldn't be an issue as it wouldn't have been a suprise when Sherwin kicked the goal and we didn't know it was over.
If we had won it would been a quirky way to end a match!!

| Id say it was nothing worse than the consisent, shambolic and amateur display that the RFL continue to show. It is to be expected. The draw for the 5th round was proof of this.

If people can't moan on here, we might as well shut the forum down. Absolutely, no one has taken any gloss off the great performance, nor can they.
