Spot on , the only accountant to ever build a decent business is the bloke who owns/owned barratts house builders
Accountants are not clever enough to see the ' vision ' of a business
A bit like looking at a RL team ' on paper ' rather than on the pitch where they play
I had one vist me once , he worked for one of my suppliers , it was just after Xmas and we were late paying our account , we explained that we were in a seasonal business and january was always a slow time for orders and it was difficult getting money in , and that the stock we owed for was still unused on the shelves
Our debt at the beginning of jan was about 12 K , by the time he came to see us it was the 3 rd week in jan and we had got the debt down to 7 K
We pointed this out to him , but he still insisted on reducing our credit limit
I asked him if he had any experience running a business , yes he replied he used to run a debt collection business
Very relevant to what he was now doing I replied and suggested that the stocktake must have been interesting " Baseball bats , 3 of , Knuckledusters 5 of "
In the end we paid off the outstanding debt 3 weeks later
His little visit and the reduction of our credit limit cost his company several million pounds worth of lost business in the following years
Accountants good at ' counting '
