Got to say that I think Steve O'Connor is a great bloke. I've got to know him over past couple of years and one of the nicest blokes involved in rugby league that i've ever met. He loves Widnes and has put a lot of money into the club. He bought me a few beers at the last Halifax match over at Widnes and also invited me to sit with him and his wife for a meal before the game. Thought it was a really nice gesture of him and as one of Halifax's biggest freeloaders I had no problem in accepting his offer.

Spot on , the only accountant to ever build a decent business is the bloke who owns/owned barratts house builders

Accountants are not clever enough to see the ' vision ' of a business

A bit like looking at a RL team ' on paper ' rather than on the pitch where they play

I had one vist me once , he worked for one of my suppliers , it was just after Xmas and we were late paying our account , we explained that we were in a seasonal business and january was always a slow time for orders and it was difficult getting money in , and that the stock we owed for was still unused on the shelves

Our debt at the beginning of jan was about 12 K , by the time he came to see us it was the 3 rd week in jan and we had got the debt down to 7 K

We pointed this out to him , but he still insisted on reducing our credit limit

I asked him if he had any experience running a business , yes he replied he used to run a debt collection business

Very relevant to what he was now doing I replied and suggested that the stocktake must have been interesting " Baseball bats , 3 of , Knuckledusters 5 of "

In the end we paid off the outstanding debt 3 weeks later

His little visit and the reduction of our credit limit cost his company several million pounds worth of lost business in the following years

Accountants good at ' counting '

It's false. Accountants are great people, despite what that hosepipe wielding former Leigh Director would have you believe. icon_smile.gif

It was obvious Widnes would post a loss around 1 Million after sorting out the mess of the previous regime. They are a well run organization off the field and have some of the most passionate fans in the game who you can have a bit of banter with usually without any problems during and after the game. Good for them that they have a guy on board who loves the game and Widnes. What impressed me was the way Widnes got on with things after the big disappointment of not being in SL. Gracious and respectful. Its a shame some Fax fans seem to be looking for any negatives about Widnes and other teams. I would expect Widnes to make a profit next year and hope they are successful in their aim of getting in to SL. Fax are a long way off Widnes despite all the good work going on.

Quote: wereutherein1987? "Makes me laugh, this thread is discussing fact (audited) and still WIDNES fans tell us their wrong and misleading!

the only crap on here is Widnes finances.

Lets hope you get your £1m turnover becasue SOC will be digging deepr if you dont
What are you on about?

Yes there's the numbers but what Widnes fans are talking about is where the moneys gone! We won't be making as big an operating loss as other clubs... that's pretty clear from attendances etc, the mney spent has clearerd alot up!

I say again if it was a bad as looks on paper (beofore intelligent people like yourself have a think) the club has no debts and alot of new things in the stadium... THEY WON'T BE PAID FOR AGAIN! SO'C would not of published accountd on the website if they where shockingly bad all around and putting the club in danger!

Let's see Fax loss next year when your trying to keep a good team, upgrade stadium (with help granted) and run a youth set up!

Quote: Viva La Vikings!! "

Christ if computers could laugh they would at half the crap on here.

For any set of rl fans with half a brain cell between them it was always going to be clear we would make a loss on year 1. When Seve bought the club we had to generate a playing staff, academy team and backroom staff from stratch. 250k was invested into the academy in year one which would set up a sustainable youth set up for the following years. This 250k costs will not have to be invested in future years making the balance sheet alot more healthier.

Debts had to be cleared, new seats were bought, improvements in the stadium rised significantly. These are all significant costs which will not be taken into account in following years resulting in us breaking even or even making a profit. I would much rather be in our position then any other club in this league when our off the field problems are concerned.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i'm sure i heard last week that if our turn over was £1m or more this year we are allowed to spend more on the salary cap next year than the other teams?

You yourself have proceeded to write crap, this post has made you look extremely foolish. It's fairly obvious you lack a great deal of understanding. The link has given very little away in terms of numbers. The statement said it had to clear the PREVIOUS club's debts but that doesn't mean the club is debt free, it no doubt will have incurred new debts!

Anyway, the picture may be clearer when the accounts are available for public inspection (Companies House website say they aren't yet available, even though they're been filed). And Halifax RL's accounts have to be filed before the end of September, as yet they have not.

seriously though you should start concentrating on how fax are going to progress rather than suck up to widnes all the time, call yourself a fan?
