On your other point - stop being pedantic. I am fully aware that a SL start in 2012 would not be your inaugural season in the promised land. However, if you were to gain admission to the pinnacle of this sport, what would you expect in your first season? 'Holding your own' or, in fact, a challenge for the glistening Super League trophy?! Feel free to nominate a superior candidate for your now available coaching role.'"
Touchy touchy
I expect our "next" season in SL not to be 2012, end of.

that's not what I'm saying........
Championship rugby in front of a few hundred fans in empty stadiums with nothing to play for (promotion wise) where a bizarre form of communism has made everyone equal through the daftest salary cap you could think of together with the impending loss of TV exposure and revenue isn't exciting - sorry.
Bulls at the Shay, nearly beating Cas away in front of big passionate crowds is exciting.
Wembley 87 (and 8icon_cool.gif was more exciting than Blackpool
Super League is more exciting than part time Championship
Nobby is a better coach than Matt

| If you think SL is more exciting than the Championship then you really don't go to many Super League games. And I'm not talking Saints vs Wigan here, but even playing some of what you might consider some of the bigger sides becomes less significant when you're playing (and generally losing) against those sides every few weeks, with the games in between being against Quins, Crusaders, Catalans etc.

If my side were in SL (we've never been there, I know), I'd be a heck of a lot more excited at the prospect of playing Leeds at Headingley, or Wigan at the JJB, than I would at the prospect of travelling to Bramall Lane to play Sheffield Eagles in front of 900 people. I think thats what the poster was referring to in terms of the 'excitement' factor.

A good coach he may be, but if you think Karl's sides play attractive, attacking rugby then you can't have seen many Batley or Salford matches - and I'm a Batley supporter.
And if you seriously think he's a better coach than Brian Noble, you must be three sheets to the wind. It is Friday night, I guess.

Spot on. They are from the same mould. Complete the set, get a good kick away and begin the arm wrestle.
We have the ball, you have the ball, we have the ball, you have the ball, we force an error, play in good ball.
However, for me it is not just about how a team plays, it's about how you conduct yourself, the way you interact with plays and your staff, personal behaviours, professional behaviours.. Coaches such as Karl and Noble ouze these traits.

Spot on. I've nothing against Matt Calland, and his reign at Halifax has, in no uncertain terms, been an exciting one. However, with the players he's had at his disposal - in terms of match-winning individual ability - even a very average coach would have been blessed with the ability at his disposal to win games from absolutely nowhere like Fax have often done in the last few seasons. I fear that the flair players he's been lucky to been able to call upon have, to a large extent, allowed him to gloss over a lot of his coaching deficiencies. A coach with the ability to formulate and implement a solid game-plan and structure - like Noble and to a slightly lesser extent, Harrison, would have made Halifax an unbeatable unit IMO.

| The quality of players at the club is down to MC tho. Worrincy, Patterson and Shad are just a few that weren't standout players when they joined but were coached up very well.

| Quote: marillion man "I'm sorry, but I just don't fancy Brian Noble as Halifax RLFC coach full time, whether or not Matt is or isn't with the club in the future.
I just don't fancy paying to watch boring RL, hell I could go to Odsal, Galpharm or Headingley for that. OR, to watch decent RL, I could travel to the other side of the Pennines for the likes of Saints, Warrington or Wigan.
Even the NRL has got out of defensive mode & play with flair nowadays.....
I wonder what the future holds for our beloved club's style of playing rugby league ?'"
And is Brian Noble not the most successful ENGLISH coach??? Don't know if you've noticed but since "Nobby" has been involved our defense and commitment has improved???? I feel for one that Nobby's input could inprove the club as a whole??? anyone else??? mind you this is personal opinion!!!

| We came a Dave Larder fingertip away from reaching the Grand Final in 2005 under Faz after a great run of form in the latter part of the season yet people still moaned as we were playing 'boring' rugby.
We just need a coach who can shore up our somewhat dodgy defence whilst keeping our exciting brand of attacking rugby. I thought we were onto a winner with Nobby on board to mentor Matt et al on this. I admire teams like Batley who play the simple stuff very effectively and win games by them (that's how they beat us) Would I want to see a Karl Harrison type team every week? I'm not so sure.

According to todays courier, Nobby has not been at the Shay since last Sunday?
Fax's statement includes
"The Club's now excited to work hard for the remainder of the 2011 season, and its planning for 2012"
Planning for 2012? does this mean they know the answer?

| 3 day's John and we can plan for next season regardless of the outcome.
A Grand Final appearance this season, while possible, is a massively long shot, maybe time to look ahead rather than wait until late september to start planning
