Quote: Starbug "Not really , basically it cost Steve O Connor close to a million quid to clear various debts , set up staffing levels, pay for a SL licence application and buy a load of new seats for 2 sides of the ' Stobart '

With a turnover of close to a million they should be breaking even this season or potentially making a profit with the NRC appearance'"

i could be wrong but didnt going into admin clear there debts ,so that oconnor could take over with out having to stump up for the previous BOD failings

The basis of those figures [ the 917 K turnover ] is down to people through turnstiles

Widnes dont own the Stobart but it was quoted that the Stobart sponsorship pays the rent [ which will be in the turnover figure ] giving them a flat starting point

Until that figure 900 K [ equating to 4,000 ave gates ] is reached in the Championship no club in the Championship should be considered as viable in SL , that includes expansion clubs as well

And I am talking about paying spectators , not freebies

The question is , how do we get to that figure , effectively doubling our attendances ?

Most probably the usual IR,Customs and Revenue

Some would have been paid some if not all that was owed

We win trophies and bring entertaining rugby league to the club. OK. Leigh have had a setback in that regard but Fax still have a chance this year. People will watch sustained success. If Fax or Leigh are at the top of the pile for three or four years they will attract a hardcore of support - hopefully close to the 4,000 mark. Obviously this has to go hand in hand with promotional expenditure and quality marketing but it can be done.

without a doubt it can be done, history tells us that.

I believe Fax have a massive latent support that will be attracted back to the club with 'success' on the pitch.

Besides the recent blip, were going in the right direction.

It doesn't clear the lot... 'offers to buy the club' are how much of debt you'll pay off... when Leeds United went into admin Ken Bates bought them back on the basis he'd pay something like £1 for every £100 owed etc.

So is Starbug but wherewereyou doesn't know this yet, unless it was posted after page one which was when I gave up on this thread

I aren't wanting to get drawn into a pi??ing contest, just genuinely suprised the the no1 contenders for s/l have posted such dire financial results.

But it has been made crystal clear that these results are just a one off and everything is now sound with the club financially.

Hope 2 s/l licences are up for grabs 2012.

Not what I am getting at , yes we all want to see good attacking RL and that is my biggest dissapointment from what I have seen from Leigh this year, as all the other clubs apart from Donny have played much better RL than us

But only one or two clubs can win things and we need all the clubs to increase attendances , this really is the key to all our survival

We need to increase the atmosphere at the games as that is what is lacking most [ except at Gateshead , they prefer it to be like a morgue
So the ' if we win and play well by spending on better players ' train of thought is all well and good but ultimatley unworkable at our level

And at least 90 % of us will still be here in 5 years time

Saints would be far worse without the Sky money!!

Very few clubs run at a profit at ALL levels (Inc Fax)

Quote: Starbug "Basically they brought in 916 K but spent in total 1,892 a loss of 986 K , but 837 K of that was spent on one off type payments/investments leaving a ' real ' loss of 149 K in the 1 st year

Scary to me and you but in the world of pro sport , small potatoes'"

Don't agree with this, Starbug. The £837k would have been capitalised and not part of expenditure, so the loss of £986k is infact a "real" loss. And if you're talking of "real" losses, if the £837k was classed as an expense then the real loss would infact be £986k plus £837k = £1,823,000. Now that ... for a RL club of Widnes's size ..... really is shocking.

You needed to understand how these figures are reached and then, like has been mentioned previously, realise that much of the debt will be a one-off and will not be incumbent for this years operating costs. The loss will recover itself in the long run, and should Widnes find their 'franchise' application successful for the 2012 I'd put money on them being in the black before then. Good luck to them. They have been lucky enough to find a backer that has the vision and finances to enable this.
