A bit like Celtic then, only they employed illegals to help them on their way.....................................

Local Amateur clubs can pull more than that round here.

In the last 15 years or so I have seen two things I thought I would never see in NE England, first class county cricket and professional rugby league. In both sports, since they started, we have faced comments like those above. It's water off a ducks back now.
We may not have any fans at GIS for games but those that turn up are passionate about the game of RL. I have travelled the length and breadth of the country (and Toulouse!) watching both Thunder since 1999 and Gateshead Storm (RLCN), I know, I know your family have been watching RL since Adam was a lad but we weren't lucky enough to be invited into your little closed shop till 1999.. The situation at Thunder appears to be a dispute between shareholders and hopefully will be resolved without Administration. I will post a couple of links so you can keep abreast of the situation at our little outpost of RL, interesting point in the second last paragraph of the second link...

| Sad to see Gateshead struggling and hope any problems can be sorted ASAP. I personally want Gateshead to grow because I think it is good for the game and good to see the sport developing in other areas. I just hope that they go about things properly and not just ship in Aussies/Kiwis as that really is not what any club in the UK should be about. I would hope that Fax brings through and uses more Halifax or English guys rather than bring in players from Australia, NZ, PNG etc. All the best to Gateshead and feel a little sad that some Fax fans wish so much ill will on them.

Whilst the RFL may go about their expansion plans ar@e about that isn't Gatesheads fault. Whether there are 500 or 50000 fans I still wouldn't wish the club folding on any of them.
Surprised by some of the comments on here to be honest.
Good luck Gateshead - see you next season

Hey its not the fans fault we welcome ALL fans of RL - Honest.
What gets under our skin is the constant bias by the RFL and the 'new SL fans club' towards expansion area clubs against the heartland clubs.
I admire you and others who try expand our game beyond the heartlands, if only the RFL would accept it has to be a slow and long term growth and maybe it will only ever be Championship or Champiosnhip 1 RL for you and others and not 'it has to be SL to expand our game at any price' like Celtic Crusaders and Harlequins.
If the rules were the same for us all and this bias dropped we would not be so against you.

| Agreed ! here here
I would welcome a level playing field, a fair competition were we all abide by the same rules and the game is allowed some dignity, while i do not want fans to be upset or upset them, being that we all love Rugby League. Gateshead should be allowed to develop naturally, ultimately the paying public will decide if they want RL. Good luck to the RL fans in the North East, it has to be the most impressive match day drive if you go past the Angel and along the Tyne. But... fast tracking sides, subsidising and allowing them individual quotas grates with me and always will, if the tables were turned these new clubs would not be happy at all. So unfortunately I shall remain at deep odds with RFL and the soliciting of our once dignified sport.

| Gateshead are going nowhere. They'll just wind up the current company and clear the debts or transfer the debts to the 'new' company that takes ownership.

| Well, it'll take someone with deep pockets to get the game started up there. Again, they're just not interested in RL. If after thirty years of trying in London we produce a three thousand and odd average crowd for a SL club then that tells you how difficult it is to plant the game in an area where there's no interest. The NFL (with all their $squillions) couldn't launch their game here - with the blaze of publicity for the London Monarchs. That worked didn't it? As did the NRL's attempt in Perth - and it's that country's national sport for God's sake.
The RFL just aren't getting it. Yes, it would be lovely to spread the game but it's nigh on impossible to do so. The more these clubs go to the wall, the more potential backers will be put off. The only hope is for a Rugby Union club to go bust and be bought out by a League franchise - but even they've got more money than sense, so i can't see that happening.

| Gateshead CEO Rod Findlay previously worked at RFL headquarters. Why would you give up a job at RFL headquarters to move to a club that is struggling financially unless you know something the rest of us can easily guess at-the RFL won't let Gateshead go to the wall

The obvious thing for me would be to re-locate to Edinburgh, think Cardiff Millenium magic & Celtic getting into SL, last year Murrayfield magic or whatever the spin was......
