There has been a lot of interest in the new format; I've seen it quoted many times "a championship team may beat a lower super league team in a one off match, but not in a league format". Whilst I'm excited about the new system, I tended to agree.

But, for some reason I've only just spotted the one million pound game. Who will benefit most from it?

For championships teams, it means that even if none of them beat a super league team in the league format, the top championship side still takes on the bottom super league side for the super league place, in what would be a cup final type match. Still a mammoth ask, but not totally impossible.

On the other hand, I guess the game could be a get out jail free card for any super league team that slips up and finishes 5th in the league.

It's going to be really interesting, at least for the first few seasons!

Agreed that often they struggle to back up the week after but they will be playing a number of games which should help them build towards this last game knowing they do not need to worry about the week after. It would be great if it was between two SL teams or two Champ teams as then at least one team will have been promoted.
