| Ask your bank if they do it for free. A number of them offer it up now....
Is any insurance worth it(other than legal requirement) If you don't think you will be ill and/or wont get knocked down, injure yourself don't bother with it. Make sure you have your EU medical card should you be going to the EU and a medical evacuation company that does cheap rates for flying you home on a stretcher with an oxygen mask..
If you wear Calvin Klein undies its probably worth considering as they tend to go missing when baggage handlers look in your case.
If you are not going abroad it probably isn't worth getting either :0

| Ask car drivers, many don't think insurance is worth it
Seriously, you may think you are sensible and safe, sadly there are too many idiots around the planet and situations you have no knowledge of that could cause harm.
A small premium for "just in case". Think about medical costs and repatriation as an example. The USA would bankrupt most.

Used to get mine through Lloyds. You can add stuff like winter sports etc. current policy is part of my Standard Life health insurance. If you travel you should have it. I got sick in Austria and needed a doctor, 200 euros was the bill. All covered by my insurance. It's usually not expensive, but as I used to travel nearly every week I got maximum value for money.
Your NHS card only covers you for treatment in the equivalent and as most European countries have a much broader mix of private insurance and public insurance you won't be covered if you end up in a private hospital (which is highly likely).

| The EU card also only allows you to access local healthcare on the sans terms as their residents - so there may be charged even for state healthcare. Annual policies are good value should you travel frequently and are not already covered on your credit or charge card. Otherwise may be cheaper to buy on trip by trip basis.

A significant number who go abroad each year will come to grief and if you are one of them, with no insurance, then the cost of repatriating you could bankrupt you. Not having insurance is serious gambling. Single trip cover is very expensive ( multiply X 26 or 52 and see the equivalent annual rate) but if you go abroad twice or more then annual insurance is far cheaper.

depends how often you go away, and what you do whilst there, if you partake in sports (basically anything involving equipment) then Dog Tag are great, if you just want "sitting by the pool having a beer" insurance then the Post Office are good as well.

Not sure I'd call that a "deal"!
