| Are there any posters on here who specialise in web design?
I have a website but it's very amatuer as it was done by myself and was going to have one put together by Yell.com at a hefty price.
I'm after a revamp of the website with a photo slideshow on, facebook, youtube and twitter links on the page and a contacts page where people fill in their details and are fowarded to my email address aswell as being higher up on google.
Not much to ask then
So if there are any computer whizz's out there who fancy making a few quid PM me and we can sort something out.
Cheers

| What kind of prices do Yell charge? If you feel better PM me and I'll be able to give you a bit of guidance on what is reasonable given your requirements.
If you have enough experience as BG said a self made WP site is the way to go.If you don't have the skill set then it can be quite daunting to start with.
Some web hosts come with one button installations of wordpress though and you could just choose a free theme from the web and start from there. There are also a wealth of plugins available that will make things like galleries, twitter feeds and a contact form easily achievable on your own.

| as said most of the popular sites have fairly simple wysiwyg interfaces with simple add on's for social medial and contact collections, only problem is the templates tend to be a little bit childish and bland, 123 are revising their site builder this weekend as it happens and are advertising a supposed more enhanced user experience [whatever that means] my experience is to get a package such as WP or webplus and work it through yourself, I run all mine through webplus and generally it's simple enough to master.
Keep it clean, keep it simple, keep it updated with content, steer away from flashy mixed font eye damaging design.

I've done several business web sites with Webplus and its never lacked any feature required, its an excellent but very simple to use program for the money mainly because the user only needs to have word processing experience and not html or any other of that gubbins.
But I also agree with BG, if all you are after is a personal site with links to social media then look no further than Wordpress, the blog styles can be restricting sometimes as you can't arrange your front page any other way than last post first, but they have recently introduced more style templates in "magazine" format, one of which I am currently using (see link in sig) which allows for a more static front page and is so easy to set up within a few minutes.

| I do believe someone on the admin team does web design. I presume it's Sadfish but I could well be wrong.
Anyway, I've used both Wordpress and Weebly and had no problems with either.
Alternatively, I know a very good web designer who I could put you in contact with?

| Thanks for the info fellas, I've looked into Wordpress but with me being a hands on fix anything bloke I'm useless with computers, haven't a clue what HTML is, what a server is and so on so WP would be wasted until I knew more about computers.
However Pemps has PM'd me and he specialises in that game and I'll see if he can sort something out, if he can't I'll follow up on the offers from above, thanks again everyone!

| I was going to quote McF but I can't due a server, MySQL permissions error, presumably someone is changing something.
Anyway, you can use Wordpress without being stuck to very blog style. Unfortunately one of our 'web designers' used it to create some corporate websites.
