So, Don Mattrick: Walked or pushed?

Seems like he's been pushed but it's been made to look like he's walked in order for Microsoft to avoid another potentially damaging PR disaster.

Whilst I can't help feeling "The last of us" is a re-skinned Uncharted, and it has some conventient gameplay mechanisms (i.e. girl who can't swim) around half way through the thing I feel it's one of the best games I've played. In terms of plotline and story it's way ahead of anything else. I like open-world games such as Skyrim, and whilst this has to be the oppisite to that to facilitate the tight storyline, I'd think it's one of the best games of this generation.

The Last of Us, has definitely been one of the best games I've ever played. The storyline could be quite easily made into a movie it's that good. It certainly has an Uncharted feel about the game, but that isn't a bad thing.
Will there be a second? I would imagine so yes.

Anyway today was the Gamescom event over in Cologne, major news from both MS and Sony although the MS one was behind closed doors so there isn't quite as much to sink your teeth into.

The big MS news is that any pre-orders of an Xbox One will ship with a copy of FIFA 14 for FREE. That pretty much makes up for the diff in prices in the consoles. Of course, if you're not a fan of fifa then this will mean nothing to you



As far as Sony goes, they showed off some nice looking indie titles but nothing too major. There was, however, an official release date given. The PS4 will launch in Europe on 29/11/13 for £349 (15/11/13 in the USA).
If you haven't pre-ordered a console already I suspect you may not be allocated a launch day unit.

Any news on 'The Last Guardian' yet?

This remains the only game I am interested in.

Not seen anything new in years, but supposedly still in development. Pretty much guaranteed to have been shifted over to PS4 now, rather than the PS3 title it was originally meant to be.
Who knows, we might see some new footage at the Tokyo Game Show in a couple of months.

Can anyone recommend a fun multiplayer game for PS3 other than Fifa? I did try Rugby League and Madden when my mates were last round but RL is rubbish and Madden was a bit too hard for them to pick up in limited time.

It depends on what kind of game you're after but I like F1 race start's. Quite a fun game to play and pretty much the same as mario kart which is a classic.



Just downloaded the fifa 14 demo, Had a quick go on the pc version and just about to try the xbox version. So far I'm not convinced I'll be parting with any cash for it. With GTA V a week away I think that's where my wonga will be going. Can't wait! I can't remember a game launch ever being as big as this.

Anyone looking at GTA 5 on ps3? bored of playing COD now need some spice, far to many spawn campers and the choice of game mode on HC is laughable.

Long as GTA 5 can get close to San Andreas it will be a monster of a game imo.

DO people think there will be a shortage of consoles at launch? thinking of ordering a few hoping to have some spare to sell and cash in!

Definite shortage of next gen launch consoles, especially in the run up to Christmas.

I believe that Game are now only doing pre-orders if you buy a bundle with games/accessories.

Any opinions of the PS Vita? Thinking of getting my seven year old one for Xmas instead of the DS he's currently using.

A couple of my mates have a vita and they are pleased with the product. I just don't think it has too many 'killer' games available for it just yet, which is what has held me back from buying one.
I think the Vita will become infinitely more useful when the PS4 launches and the remote play/second screen functions kick in.

Pretty fabulous hardware, pretty awful software. There is a real lack of quality games for it. My lads have had it and they do play on it, but solely on FIFA. They've had plenty of games over recent birthdays and Christmas for it, but they never get a second play.

If you end up getting one, I recommend you buy Spelunky off of the PS Store. If/when I decide to pick one up I won't need much else aside from that game to keep me busy, it's an incredibly addictive little gem of a game.

Microsoft have promised that there will be stock in high street stores on release day and all through Christmas.

If they can pull that off they are obviously trying to capitalise on any Playstation stock problems.

So the new "security" requirements of Xbox have locked me out of my account since I have no idea what my password is for the account that I used to set up my gamertag and all attempts to recover it have failed. (I'm also pretty sure the email is inactive anyway since I haven't used it in years)

So as far as I can see my only solution is to a) get a new gamertag and lose everything or, the more likely option, just sack off the 360 and sell it since it seems that pc gaming has become more accessible and easier than console gaming.

Sounds like you've already made your decision given your last statement. (How is it by the way, are you on about Steam?)

But if not, if you know which email address you used, you should be able to recover your password to that email address, then recover your MS password. (Or if the email is genuinely no longer live just call MS and get them to help. You should know your name, address, email, card details etc so they should let you in).

Yes I have heard of the internet and I have been down that road already. The only way to get my password reset is to fill in a form that requires me to try and remember information such as who did you last send emails to?, what are your other folders? and what were the last 5 digits of your prepaid card.

No way am I going to remember any of that but I tried anyway and got reject. Now I have found a work around that is letting me in at the moment but I won't be renewing my Gold when it expires in October until this mess is sorted.

I foresaw this problem years ago and tried to go down the phone mircosoft support route, only to be told the only way to solve it was to have the password. I will try that again to see if they have realised the stupidity of their policy yet, although I doubt it because this just stinks of a money grab by forcing folk to set up another gamertag and pay for another subscribation.

Yeah Steam makes PC gaming very straight forward, I already have enough games through Steam Sales to last me a long time without having to buy another game and considering that 90% of the best games these days are independent ones that don't require super computers to run them and hardly ever cost more than £10. The idea of getting rid of the 360 seems like a better idea the more I think about it. Although I do like sports games, which is where the console are clear leaders.
