| David Davies (Brexit Secretary) resigned, Tories in utter disarray, what chance of a deal now ??
I'm not sure that we have ever seen such inept leadership in government and certainly not on such an important issue.
Our @friends@ in the EU mist be absolutely ing themselves at just how poor we are.
The government started with no plan for Brexit and just a few months short of the big day, they are getting more and more disjointed.

they didn't think they needed a plan, all sane people wanted to remain, only the racist over 60's voted leave.
I agree, it is an utter shambles and May has proven she couldn't lead a dog, let alone a country.
I wonder how much Chequers would bring on the open market, because it's of zero value to the country.
I have, for a long time, been a conservative, but now I just think all politics is the preserve of self serving individuals.

UK politics is in a real mess. There is a golden opportunity for someone to step forward and make themselves the hero, but as you said, the self-serving attitude within will be weighing up the potential losses of this undertaking. They may single-handedly save the country, but on the other hand they may lose their personal perks. It's a tough one.

We need a peaceful equivalent of Guido Fawkes, kick them all out and get REAL people into power, but it will never happen, tbe system is corrupt, has been for centuries.

Just a casual observation from someone watching far away...unbiased.
The thing has been totally mismanaged with no though out constructive plan....is tuning into a complete ___ up...time to hit the pause button and reassess....
Is a total mess already....

| You can't negotiate with the EU when you're still negotiating with your own party.
She'll either try and ignore the Brexiters and press on with Norway-lite if the EU go along with it or she'll get forced out and then we could end up with anything.

| So, the Cabinet all toddle along to Chequers where the Maybot say's "back my new plan or you're out on your ear". They all then scamper home & whine & moan followed by Davies's resignation!
What a spineless bunch of illegitimate's they are.
So now we have a watered down membership option or a Dickensian utopia - brilliant, congratulations to Cameron right down to the knuckle-draggers who believed the hype.

| Davis has done the first useful thing he's ever managed, by being May's Geoffrey Howe - she'll be gone within a week. God knows what we'll be left with - probably one of Johnson, Gove or Rees-Mogg - but all of that requires time on manoeuvres, which is yet more time they're not negotiating with the EU.
It's an absolute cluster - a group of self-serving old Etonians have savaged democracy, divided the country and undermined the economy, all for the sake of their interminable one-upping of each other; but I guess it's all jolly-japes when the outcome has no bearing on your personally. It's a total embarrassment - and if any tory supporting Brexiteer fancies attempting to polish this particular turd, best of luck with that.

I'm just pleased that we have such a strong and stable government at such an important time for the nation
2 years to try and reach agreement within the cabinet and the idiots in Westminster cant even manage that.
I've always been in the remain camp but, if we are leaving the EU and customs union then, lets at least have a deal that works, instead of blended crap.
Oh, how I wish Mr Cronus was here to tell us how it's all going to plan and this is just part of the negotiation process ![Embarassed icon_surprised.gifops:](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_redface.gif)

Cameron was a waste of space. Had it not been for Howard manipulating timing of the the leadership vote, Davies would have been leader. I disagree profoundly with David Davies, but say what you like, he has integrity, which is more than you can say for the rest of them. IMO Cameron should be put up against a wall and shot. This shambles for our country is entirely down to him. As are the shambles in the NHS and Education. You could of course blame Clegg for letting him in in the first place. There's another I'd have up against the wall!

I suppose his integrity got the better of him but it's no wonder the quality of our politicians is pretty dire given the culture of resignation. I'd rather have seen him fight it out.
The thing is, it will probably change very little. From what I believe May and her closest circle have always been steering the negotiations from No.10 and have actually carried out most of the talks, so the message to the EU won't really change.

The referendum would have worked but, only with a remain vote ie,nothing would have changed.
The real difficulty for The Tories (and it would have been the same for Labour) is that, the Referendum was not along political party lines and both Labour and The Tories have a fair mix of Leave and Remain voters.
You have to say also that, Corbyn has been far from convincing with his remain stance and the bloke must have more splinters than Arnold Laver's wood yard after staying on the fence for so long.
I believe that his current position would be to have some sort of customs union and if he has such a great plan, perhaps, for the good of the nation, he should share it with the wider public and maybe we could reach a deal.
Sadly, I douby that it exists, other than in his own mind but, it does allow him to pretend that he has a plan, ironically, this is exactly what Mrs May has been pretending but, it seems that she has been found wanting.

Except of course had Labour won in 2015 there wouldn't have been a referendum. If there'd been another coalition (Cameron and Osborne's preferred outcome IMO) there wouldn't have been a referendum. And if the various Remain factions in the Commons can get their act together, there still may not be a Brexit. Brexit is already a disaster for the UK, if it actually happens it'll make the thirties recession seem like a picnic.
