How do you transfer your current phone number to a new phone ?

Take SIM out of old phone and put it in the new one

I wasnt exactly enthralled by the new iPhone and i have time on my 4S contract so ill decide what to do when that is finished.
I think they are making it very friendly to the US market with its new features such as passbook and the like. I dont think it applied all to well with the UK market, i imagine the new Maps will have London down to a T but other cities we will have to wait for much like how over here Siri cannot be used to find restaurants etc. Passbook will take time to make its mark in the UK imo The bigger screen was a must and they kindly threw in the Retina screen for good measure and because they can. The pin thing doesnt bother me because if youre spending however many quids it will take to get the new iPhone then more than likely you knew there would be a new connector priced around 30 quid to buy too. 25 quid isnt too bad. The panorama camera is a nice touch as is the super duper fast wireless.

I love Apple products and went Mac a while back but there isnt much more they could do with the iPhone, once they make a smaller iPad they will have exhausted that market too. I wont be rushing out to buy one but i am interested in having a go on one and seeing the difference. I'd ideally like to take one out of the Apple Store and use it where there is a 3G/E signal and see how good it was then.

I'm not worked up about it, it's not doing me any harm. I'm just discussing it. The £25 adapter and not following the industry standard that everyone else does is just petty.

There is no reason the couldn't have used the industry standard Mini USB connector, apart that is from the £25 they think they can charge for an adaptor.

If he meant transferring it to a new phone on a new network, he'd have to approach his current network for a PAC code, which when given to the new network will ensure a magic changeover onto the new network (After a few days).

But Saddened's point was (I think) that it was petty that they changed the connector from the old version, so even changing it to a 'standard' connector would have meant people would still need an adapter to use their old peripherals (docks etc) from there old iPhones.

You do get a charger with the phone it's not like you need the adapter to use the phone. If you do want the adapter, a quick search on ebay brings up quite a few considerably less than £25. I really don't think its a big deal.

I'm not an apologist at all. The iPhone 5 is new and yes plenty people will buy it, I'm not sure why that makes them sheep though. Apple make well designed, well built products and charge a premium for it, I'm not sure why some people have a problem with this, there are alternatives and nobody is forced to buy anything from them.

Because the only thing "new" about the 5 is the model number.

There is nothing ground breaking though.

There is nothing (that works in the UK) in the new iPhone that isn't in competing phones, iPhones used to set the benchmark for other phones, it is now playing catch up. The biggest downer with iPhones is battery life, this still hasn't been addressed.

it's an upgrade just as all the other iterations have been which is all its meant to be, Im not sure why people were expecting something totally groundbreaking.

The phone isn't technically the best phone on the market, part from the first version (which basically changed the mobile phone market) the iPhone has always been inferior technically to other phones on the market, I suppose people are paying for the iOS software and the design and build quality. As I said before there is a lot of competition and a lot of choice in the phone market dont like the iPhone's specs or software get another brand.

FWIW I won't be getting an iPhone5, Im waiting till my cr@ppy contract with 3 runs out and ill be getting a SIM only contract as I'm sick of paying through the nose to be tied in a contract.

I totally agree, although Since getting a 4S I must say it hasn't bothered me that much, all the precious ones the battery life was shocking.

It's coming to something when you list those as new features

That is a problem with pretty much every device. That is the most important new technology advance for me. If someone could come up with a phone as good as the S3, iphone, Lumias and it had three or four day battery life, I'd be sold. Most phones will last less than a day even when not used and will not last more than a couple of hours when doing things like navigation, browsing, streaming and playing music.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten that SCSI used to be used like that. Although Apple dropped SCSI for FireWire.
As FireWire came out in, what, 1995? I'd guess there was a reasonable period when both were available?

I think everyone and their cat is downloading iOS6...

I'll give it a week or two before I even attempt to download it onto my ithings.

Downloaded iOS 6 and Apple are so deserving of the stick they are getting for the 'Maps' app, it's not very good at all, hopefully it will be updated quickly. I used street view quite often in Google Maps and its not in maps, it also doesn't find places very accurately, definite fail from Apple on this one. Other than that its an OK update, not that much change from iOS 5.
