I was wondering whether the Leeds Lost Loiners would enter a team in a summer touch rugby league tournament played at South Leeds Stadium?

As a introduction – the tournament has been running for 6 years now and has been getting bigger and better each year.

The tournament this year will be the official touch rugby tournament in Leeds endorsed and backed by Leeds Rugby, the RFL + Leeds City Council.

I personally organise 2 teams representing the Surveying Profession whilst last season teams included the Legal Eagles (representing the legal profession), Crunch Time (representing the accountancy profession) + several other teams.

The tournament runs from June through till August played every week on a Monday night at South Leeds Stadium (main pitch).

Each team fields a minimum of 6 players or a maximum of 10 players (inc 4 subs – unlimited substitutions)
20 minutes per half (across the width of 1 half)
£2 per player per week

The standard varies from okay to very good although all standards of players / teams are welcome and the players use the event for pre season training / fitness work to just a social activity.

We would love it if the Leeds Lost Loiners would enter a team in this tournament.

Sorry Paul, but Monday night is our normal training night so we'll have to give it a miss. We did play in this a few years away when it was run on a wednesday night and it was fun.

Could you not use the tournament as your training sessions throughout the summer i.e. for 3 months?

It has changed quite a bit since 3 years ago and really has become a superb tournament (not just some mixed tag tournament). It is played to quite a good standard of touch rugby and Morley Borough RLFC use this for pre-season training already.

If there is anyway you guys would come along to give it a go that would be massive as we really want to have a thriving touch rugby league tournament going in Leeds.

But we get more than 10 at training

How many players do you get coming to training?

You could always field 2 teams.

Morley Borough have put out 2 teams.

Their A team consists mainly of their backs and their forwards play in a B team.

If your thinking you may struggle to get 20 players every week - you only need a minimum of 6 players per team so as long as you have 12 players you can enter 2 teams.

Hope this is of potential interest.

I don't think this is a goer as we have an arrangement to play up at Morley RUFC on Monday nights and pay for the privilege. It's a good arrangement and not something I'd like to see us move away from.

Okay fair enough - shame we cant combine our efforts.

Thats exactly the reason why its at South Leeds Stadium to enable people to get from Leeds City Centre / South Leeds easily. South Leeds isn't convenient for me, Gareth or Tony Soprano. We live 5 mins from Morley and don't plan and travelling any futher.
