WIZARDS STAR SMITH LANDS TOP HONOUR
Warrington Wizards block busting back row forward Jono Smith has been crowned The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National Player of the Year for 2010 at a star studded Co-operative Championships Celebration Dinner on Tuesday evening in Manchester. Former Coronation Street actress Lucy-Jo Hudson presented him with his award.
Twenty one year old Smith has been in sensational form for the Wizards this season with his consistent top class display’s catching the eye and helping him secure nine Man of the Match awards. He also helped himself to twenty three tries in nineteen appearances and landed twenty three goals as well as two drop goals for good measure.
Club Administrator Dave Whalley was delighted for Smith. He said, “Jono has been in great form all season and thoroughly deserves this award. His contribution to the success of the side this year cannot be under estimated. He has been a constant menace to the opposition with his power and strength in attack as well as being a hard hitting defender. The whole club is really pleased for him and hopefully it is the beginning of a great week for him and he can help us to Grand Final glory on Sunday afternoon at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.”
