Dewsbury Celtic have unveiled ambitious plans to raise £150,000 towards the building of its planned Clubhouse facility in Crow Nest Park in a year of intensive fundraising commencing with an Ex-Players’ Reunion at the Irish National Club on Saturday January 20th (start 7.30pm).
With the club estimating received and pledged external funding sources to be in the region of £200,000 over the next two years it has decided to phase the development of the facility, with the intention of completing junior changing room and first phase social facilities by the middle of 2009 at an estimated cost of £350,000.
Celtic Chairman Tom O’Donovan explained that the conditions attached to some of the funding sources had set the parameters for the project.
“Whilst we have already enjoyed tremendous support from organisations such as the RFL, Dewsbury Area Committee and the Irish Government, the time limits attached to grants already received and pledged for the period 2007-2009 are such that we recognize that we have to act quickly to raise the balance of the funding to complete the first phase of the Clubhouse. We already have 17 events arranged or in the pipeline for 2007 that are mostly targeted at the core Celtic community. However we wish to develop a “Testimonial Year” theme by inviting as many organisations and institutions in the town as possible to assist us by arranging a benefit event on our behalf. The club has spread way beyond its original base and in addition to its open age side, now preparing for its second year in National League 3, fields eleven youth and junior teams to the benefit of some 200 young people from all sections of the Heavy Woollen community. We would appeal for the support of the wider community in this fundraising year as this project will benefit a wide range of people in the area.”
Celtic’s Testimonial Year will kick off in style on January 20th with an ex-Players’ Reunion Evening at the Irish National Club at which details of the fundraising programme will be presented. Celtic are gearing up for the biggest gathering of current and former players, sponsors and supporters for many years, with players from Celtic’s many prominent post-war sides invited to attend. Players whom the club have not been able to contact and who wish to attend are requested to contact the club via the Irish National Club or via email at
