| Quote: E.S.O "Just because we would still be called the Eagles, we wouldn't be [iTHE[/i Eagles, if that makes sense. And what about the Donny fans? How do you think they would feel about supporting the South Yorkshire Eagles? It's a complete non starter.'"
If it was a MERGED team in super league then i would be happy to follow SY Eagles or Don Valley Eagles, as long as the colours were a mixture of red, royal blue and gold.
We may see it as a non starter now but would you still rather be in the Championship in twenty years time while a team from Edinburgh or Birmingham would be in the SL? Aren't Catalan Dragons a merged team? They seem to be doing ok.

| Doesnt matter Rupert,I'd rather be in the championship for the next 40 years than have a super league team If it wasnt for not having that one word "Sheffield" A city that has over 700,000 people but only 1,000 come to the games at a push Would they be bothered if the sheffield went (Answer no,Probably never heard of us) So why should we be bothered,Bring on the South Yorkshire Eagles.

| I'd still rather stick pins in my eyes.
The last merger worked a treat, didn't it?

| My view (for what it's worth!) is that gazing into the crystal ball - whilst looking over the shoulder, the following scenario pans out...
Sheffield Eagles merge with Doncaster RLFC to create a Superleague club Don Valley Eagles (or whatever).
Year one all goes well, however there is now a wealth of talent in Sheffield and Doncaster, as both clubs had excellent links into schools and clubs prior to the merger, now not all those kids can benefit from the Don Valley Eagles' plans. Therefore kids don't get the same opportunities, there are a number of players who are good enough to play Championship or Championship 1, but no where to play it. What happens?
The new Sheffield Eagles 2015 forms, from nothing, with a team of volunteers spearheading the revival. Borrowing kits from Lancashire based clubs to prevent clashes, playing out of Don Valley Stadium, starting at the bottom with no team in place for the start of the season, they manage to survive and the look to build on this to create a force in the Sheffield area once again.
All of a sudden, the SL club forgets about the Eagles, and becomes Don Valley Giants. The new Sheffield Eagles 2015 club has a loyal following of hardened supporters who've been with them for years.
All sounds a little too familiar for me!!

It doesn't have to be that way though does it?
Your so called merger with Huddersfield was total bolloids, a sham for their benefit, and i can see why would be wary of another. If this was a discussion about the Cumbrian teams joining together for a SL team everyone would be saying what a good idea it was.

| Huddersfield-Sheffield,Gateshead-Hull,Totally different to Sheffield/Doncaster type merger,This would not only benefit those two but the whole of south Yorkshire to come together as one,Why would Gateshead cometogether with Hull when it's miles apart same as Huddersfield,So if the south yorkshire kids are only good enough for Championship or Championship 1 we should not bother applying for super league as the Eagles in a few years time then? I think it would encourage youngsters to actually better themselves and get more to play the game,The lure of the super league and the extra cash (which always helps) or playing part-time in a one man and his dog league,The choice would be theres.

| Look at the state of Cumbrian rugby now all in CC1,There should and only ever be two mergers to try and get in super league,Cumbrian and South Yorkshire,The others were a sham and a joke and not worth comparing as the above would be done by people who care about the club and the region,The other two were just a chance to get rid of a couple of clubs,This wouldnt be the case in the Cumbrian/South Yorkshire ones.

Who do we (Sheffield, Doncaster and anyone else in SY) want to be in twenty years time, Catalan Dragons or Workington Town?
