| Jeez - bottom v top playoffs. Does he really think that the Championship side would beat the $uperleague side ?
May as well just abolish promotion/relegation altogether.
And parachute payments - is that so that the relegated side can have a huge advantage over everyone else in the Championship ?
Dearie me today ..........

Fev recently beat a SL team that was not bottom of the table. I agree about parachute payments though. The big disparity between the SL and the CC is obviously the fact that SL teams are full time and receive the necessary money from Sky to maintain that status. The CC teams currently cannot afford to run a full time squad so the obvious happens more often than not when SL sides meet CC ones. The only way I could see a workable P & R system is for all teams in CC to be full time and receive yearly payments that are not too far behind the money SL clubs receive. Otherwise the leap is too great and we'd end up with either yo yo teams or, worse, a death in the family. Having said that I do agree though that clubs outside of SL are having their ambitions strangled through no fault of their own and dreams of crossing swords with the Wigan's and Leeds' of this world are just that, dreams that are highly unlikely to be fulfilled outside of the occasional Challenge Cup tie.

And well done to them. They were at home though. Our pattern was for the higher placed club to be at home.
Offhand, I can't recall anyone getting promotion in such a game - Batley survived a couple of times in the playoff. Charlton famously avoided relegation three seasons in a row in soccer before they gave it up as a cr@p idea. The Scots still retain it between Divs 2, 3 and 4. No idea how well it works.

| No need for play-offs,scrap franchises, one up one down, the team that finishes top wins the league,no need for grand finals,You have the cup final for that,Winning the league is based over the full season,Rhinos winning it from there position makes the competition laughable,Don't need a grand final to have drama,Look at the football last weekend.

| But it's the one-off games - the Big Day Out - that you remember.
Look at us in 2006 - we won at Warrington, effectively to secure the runners-up spot.

| Big Events like the Grand Final are needed to help the game get a greater profile...
Thats what the Magic Weekend has aimed to do but, however good an idea, even the most avid RL fan would get bored watching 7 full games over a weekend..

I might go to the magic weekend, but there's no way I'll watch all 7 games.

I went to Cardiff a few years ago, thinking exactly the same. But I ended up watching all six games, apart from fetching-beer and making-room-for-more-beer breaks.

| Me & the missus have been to every magic weekend and going to this one as well.
Thoroughly enjoyable and watched every game - didn't get bored, only FROZEN at the 2nd Murrayfield!
Looking forward to the sights, sounds and smells of Madchester!
It won't be as good as Cardiff though, nowhere's ever as good as Cardiff....

| I've been to just about all of them, even the one at Murrayfield when we were playing at home to Whitehaven on the Bank Holiday Monday. Left Edinburgh at 9.30 Monday morning and got to Bramall Lane just in time for kick off. There's nowt like it, although I agree about the Millennium Stadium, best venue in Britain. Eastlands will have to go some to beat it. And yes. it was rather cold that weekend in Edinburgh wasn't it? Not sure how many consecutive games I could sit through before I got bored, but I guess four will be the most I can get in on one day for the moment. Lol.
