Sheffield Eagles are delighted to announce the signing of Tom Lillycrop from Championship rivals Dewsbury Rams.

Lillycrop, 22, has previous Super League experience with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats after coming through the ranks at Bradford Bulls.

He has played International Rugby League with the England Academy and joins the Eagles on an initial one year deal.

The prop forward could feature in Sunday’s squad which will see him take on his old club, Dewsbury Rams who visit Owlerton Stadium (23rd March, kick off 2pm).

Lillycrop joins fellow ex-Dewsbury players; Dom Brambani, Scott Turner and Patch Walker at the current Championship Champions.

Speaking of the signing, Eagles Head Coach Mark Aston said, “It’s great to announce that Tom is joining the club.”

“For me, he was one of the stand-out players at Dewsbury last year and we hope he will make a big impact here.”

“He’s the type of player we want here, young, talented and lots of potential. We believe we can develop him further and help with his progression as a rugby league player.”

He will provide firepower and depth to the Eagles squad; something Aston feels is needed.

He added, “Everyone is aware that the pitch is a bit smaller at Owlerton than we’ve been used to. We are adapting to it, and in time we will turn the stadium into a fortress.

“We need more strength in depth, especially across our front row and Tom helps provide that.”

Lillycrop said, “I’m excited to be joining the Eagles. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the club and I can’t wait to get out there and begin playing.”

I saw a lot of Dewsbury last season and he always impressed me. At 22, I think he's a really, really good signing.

Could have Brambani, Walker, Jones and Lillycrop all lining up against their former club on Sunday.

Welcome to the forum with that piece of inside information. icon_wink.gif

I just took Dewsbury's statement at face value. It makes no odds really. It's what he does for us that matters. I don't care what shape his face is. icon_lol.gif

thanks for the welcome griff, wether it was genuine or not, and I agree its what he does for you that matters. I think you've signed a good un there, stand out prop for Dewsbury last year, no game time this season?

Charlie has been saying for weeks now , you Seagulls look a bit light in the Forwards , this signing could go either way , im not sure , can see your forwards troubling the Mighty Centurions pack , or even our reserve pack for that matter . icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif .I said at the beginning of the season a Team could afford to lose around 3-4 games in our League and finish in the Top 2 , the Seagulls have already lost 2 icon_eek.gif .

For me Charlie the goalposts moved for us in that i'm very grateful to still have a club to watch in Sheffield this year the move and uncertainty of the off season will have taken it's toll, it could have been very different. As much as I'd like a top two finish realistically I think we will finish around fourth, Yourselves and Fev have the top two places nailed on as long as both clubs keep working hard and racking up the wins

Given Keighley troubled the mighty Centurions pack I'll reserve judgement for now on who has the best forwards line up this season. We may not make the top 2 but the club will be none the worse if we dont make it, other clubs may not be quite as fortunate...

B E , finishing in the top 2 is most important this season , just for the Prize money alone , I think our League will be the most interesting especially nearing the end of season when I think it is 5 clubs go down .This should not bother Sheff , but I think a couple of decent teams will face the drop .

Keighley DID cause us a few problems a couple of weeks ago , they played very well , and are not a bad team , but I felt we didn't respect the ball that day and threw out some crazy passes , I still feel our forwards are the best in the League , as are our halves ,in Riddy and Brierley we have 2 stars with again good back up , this year its about strength in depth , Paul Rowley will make sure we don't take anything or any team for granted .As for yourselves , I think your Backs are as good as ever , but still think your Squad is on the light side , especially if you come across a few injuries .

Cant argue that we are looking on the light side, we got lucky with injuries last season whereas this season we have been unlucky! Cant fault Leigh's squad, their recruitment has been very good for this level and Brierley is a fantastic player , I just think some clubs may have gambled on the top 2. If it comes off then its worth it, but if they don't make it, then there may be problems ahead. It's good to see sides with a bit of ambition in the Championship, its the only way the RFL will take the competition seriously.
