Sir, are you a proud Welshman? Because if you are then you should be appalled with the club.
Look at the Catalans did exactly same as you and found success in Oz players. They now had to produce a background on French players and look how poor there season was, it's back to the drawing board and a waste of 3 years'"
Right ok, i can see your point but the posatives far outweigh the negatives.
Last year we had a team mostly built of welshmen, What happened? we only won 3 games and nearly went bankrupt. In order to survive radical change was needed.
With this team of experienced imports the young welsh lads can learn behind before eventually getting regular team places. With the sucess this year the club has developed a hardcore fanbase of 3,000 which has increased revenue and will no doubt grow next year. With this increased revenue the club can spend more n player development and a new crop of welsh talent will receive the treatment of a first class youth development, HOWEVER this will only be achieved if the team is successful and gets the funds to improve the youth set up.

| Crufan 94 I agree with you on points that's fair enough but to the gentleman posting beforehand;
You name all these players but Lewis Mills has been released so you could retain wages for foreign player, and yes the scorpions players have been in the crusaders set up but couldn't get in due to Aussies again!
Also other than Ben Flower who really has actually played alot this season? Elliot Kear this year started and you replaced him with a 30 odd year old pole/Aussie. JJ was sent out on loan to Widnes due to 2 front row Aussies, am I not correct?
You have to see my point sir, squads don't prove things appearances and statistics do.
Oh and for the Welsh rugby set up it is benefitting but it should be having alot more coming out of the crusaders who actually play 1st team.
Regards

Sir, are you a proud Welshman?
FYI neither male nor Welsh - just a proud Crusader!
Just getting bored with keep having to 'justify' Crusaders' existence.
Get over it, the club is on the up, more Welsh born players will be in the first team in the next few years, the foundations have been laid and on the back of a thrilling first season in North Wales - the future is bright. I know only too well of the gripes from clubs in the 'traditional heartlands', being also a supporter of one of the teams 'hard done to' last time round with the SL licenses but the 'chip on the shoulder' and 'poor us' attitude achieves nothing in the long run.

| The quandary is do you have a competitive team and build a base and a pathway or do you go hell for leather with Welsh players and hope that the crowds will be maintained (let alone grown) when we get beatings of the magnitude we had last year? I'd go for the loss leader to get enough through the gates and build a firm foundation for the future every time. Can't see the logic in going from no welsh players to full in one go as we'd also be bankrupt.

Oh and for the Welsh rugby set up it is benefitting but it should be having alot more coming out of the crusaders who actually play 1st team.
JJ was actually sent out on loan because at the time Jamie Thackray was keeping him out of the 19. He was recalled after Thackray got injured and played his way back into the team; making 14 appearances (50% of our games) and playing really well in the 2nd half of the season. Likewise, Ben Flower played his way into the matchday squad regularly, and made 11 appearances, before injury curtailed his season.
There's been no announcement on Mills' departure, but it does look like he's leaving. However, he's settled at the Scorpions and said in a matchday programme a few weeks back that he's in Uni in South Wales, so maybe it was his choice to leave?
The club has only existed for five years, you can't expect it to be awash with Welsh talent already. The Scorpions players I mentioned that we brought through aren't still with us because they aren't good enough. Unfortunately, that's the harsh reality of professional sport.
Remember that most of these kids didn't have the luxury of growing up with rugby league and are still learning the game (only at professional level, rather than when they're 7 or 8 years old). The dual-registration system is in place to help youngsters develop and with players like Kear, Dudson, White, Williams, Mills and Murphy all playing regularly this season, they will have gained a bit more experience of professional rugby league, a bit more know how and will hopefully develop into Super League players.
Jamie Murphy, for example, was playing 2nd grade rugby union this time last year. He's now signed a contract with the Crusaders and trained with them for a few months, played playoff rugby with the Scorpions and is well on his way to becoming a rugby league star of the future. He's also in the Wales squad for the Autumn internationals.

| at the moment the crusaders cant field a all welsh side unfourtunatly as simply it woundt be competitive enough end of but the basis is now there with the new set up in wrexham the crusaders now have a strong team and set up that will allow a few more welsh players start to be given games and oppitunites when there ready but it will take time and patience. look at nal in football i think they have 2 english players in there first team squad, now for a club of there size and over 100 years of history why is it that now you dont really hear them been critised often do you. with the good work been done in the schools, the crusaders 18s team now playing in the super league academy and hopefully progressing over the next few years and the great work been done at the scorpians then the future of the crusaders, scorpians and welsh rugby league looks very good but again it will take time and patience. but for time been while these good young players are been developed the crusaders need to keep a very good competitive side out that will attract crowds, sponsorship ect but i do agree that the crusaders should maybe let a few of the overseas player go and start to recruit british players.

I think you summed it up well, the fans want instant success but the same fans quickly want Welsh Heroes to support. It's a fine line to tread. But even with the baggage the club carried with it from the move it's been an inspired first season in Wrexham!

| I think you need to be more specific.
6 players out of 17 what?
Do try and be specifically specific this time.
Try constructing complete sentences, with either a specific statement or specific question to enable us to give a specific response.
I for one, am specifically looking forward to hearing more of your considered views.

| Still give me proof of development in the crusaders camp.
Your trying to digress from the statement so please shed light as to why your team is so poor in playing actual welsh folk, worst thing is the players in the team you can really call genuine first teamers!
Can't wait to hear the excuse !

8 players playing for Welsh teams, an under 18's that got to the play offs of the Gillette Youth last year (though sadly dropped out), the same team won it the year before and prior to that our Colts won the National Conference. A team down in the South that was born out of the ashes of the move last year (even with your mutant hands you can count that's two teams in Wales) All in the last 5 years how long have you had?
By the way have a look at the Dragonhearts for the last 7 years if you're still in doubt, still growing mate whatever your view from under the Bridge.
