Quote: J20 "Sharp is a cracking coach IMO and did a good solid job at Hudds but was just unable to take them that step further! He aint up to a Wigan level club yet but would do a great job at Cru!

Bad for Celtic? A coach with a SL record of getting into playoff's before and usually always at elast in top 8 i'd say that's pretty good wouldn't you?

Or is anyone else (bar Noble) about?'"

Jon Sharp is absolute gash as a head coach, he took Hudds back and undid some of the good work done by Tony Smith. Fortunately Hudds have got a proper head coach again now.

Sharp is a great assistant, but my left buttock is a better head coach than Jon Sharp.

Just be glad Celtic fans that you've got a proper head coach in Noble and Sharp will effectively be his assistant

Too right that n*b head Sharp took us from 10th under Smith to 5th and from losing away to lowly Hunslet in the Challenge Cup under Smith to beating Leeds in a semi and our first CC Final in 44 years icon_rolleyes.gif

Sharp's successes were on the back of Smith's work at the club. You conveniently missed out what happened last season, oh yes you finished tenth. Whats happened now you've got a decent head coach who players actually want to play for? Oh look you finished 3rd.

Sharp is a great assistant coach, but pathetic as a head coach. Same goes for Agar at Hull.

You are clueless. Smith finished bottom and was relegated. then had a team funded by Davy with the likes of steve Mac/ Thorman/ Gene/ Turner/ St Hilaire/ Reilly. In their first season back they lost to Hunslet in the C Cup probably the worst defeat of a SL club in the tournament. The Giants finished 10th mariginally ahead of Wakey - the year Fax went into meltdown and lost all but one game.

Smith did a decent job. Attributing sharp's successes to Smith is laughable.

The suggestion that Smith created a good academy system at the giants is the most laughable comment of the lot. You are kidding. he had no interest in the scholarship / 18s etc. None.

You obviously know FA about the Giants so stop making an ar5e of yourself.

I do not have to re write history to highlight Sharp's weaknesses. You seem capable of little else.

Sharp was good at taking avaerage players, getting them reasonably fit and devising a game plan that got the most out of them. A very structured approach. he struggles with more talented and spontaneous players, ones with minds of their own (thus Drew leaving the club early). To be a top coach you need to be able to manage these players.

So at Celtics / Salford / Quins etc Sharp would do a decent job.

HTH

And what did Sharp do with a team funded by Davy, after a few years of consolidation and without the threat of relegation? Finish 10th.

No thats why theres no-one coming through the system now is there?
I must have imagined those young lads coming through the Hudds system and playing for the 1st team this year icon_lol.gif

You keep advertising your stupidity. In National 1 , as it was, Smith had the most expensive team by a mile. In SL under Sharp the Giants were not full salary cap unlike 7/8 clubs. This is basic stuff that you do not even know icon_rolleyes.gif

Your stupidity re the academy is even greater. The guys you refer to signed years after Smith had gone! You are so desperate to blow smoke up Smith's a**e that players who were only 13 when Smith left the club are all down to Smith. Please tell me you are joking. No one is that thick icon_biggrin.gif

Sharp got results with a low spend team. Live with it sonny.

Try not to write about the Giants because you are utterly clueless and make yourself look ignorant. icon_wink.gif

The good point about Sharp is he managed to attract pretty good players to huddersfield the problem is he has no man management skills and ends up falling out with them and then getting rid of them like st hilaire, drew, Gene, evans, nero etc.

One point though marsdengiant Leroy was signed whilst Smith was coach icon_razz.gif

But Smith played no part in the signing of 'scholarship kids' as I am sure you know.

Its just funny that some plonker thinks Smith had something to do with bruno, Josh, Alex Brown, Lunt, Patrick & Elliott Hodgson being successful icon_lol.gif

Well said Bigrob, thank god we got shut of him before he completely wrecked us, he was running out of players to fall out with. I can't say what I know otherwise I will get banned.

Fact is we finished 10th and league tables don't lie.

Davy is one of the nicest, most patient people you could meet and he sacked him, Hull sacked him and Celtic decide to take a punt, after this he has very few places left to go. Odd how he was so rated and no other team came in for him?

For god sake keep him as second in command, his arrogance and personailty does not and will never suit another head coach job.

You too are obviously clueless icon_lol.gif The BEST we ever achieved under Smith was 10th Smith also finished 12th from 12. You're right, the league table 'don't' lie icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Yep, Sharp had another 4 years after Smith left to consolidate and improve the squad and he didnt, or at least not to the extent acceptable for a club of Huddersfields potential.

Im not here simply to slag off Jon Sharp. As I've already said I think he'll be a great assistant coach but I think he's one of those coaches who just isn't cut out to be a head coach.
I think teaming him up with a strong head coach like Noble and another strong "assistant" in Harris is a great move for Celtic.

Glad you have stopped pretending that Smith is responsible for the young players breaking through now at the Giants. How dopey was that?

Also it is a shame you cannot remember the 5th place and CC Final Sharp delivered. Also that his lowest season finish with the Giants was better than smith's best.

Sharp can do a job with a low club. He can't deliver at the top end. I can make this case without resorting to silly stories about Tony Smith icon_rolleyes.gif

Smith is a better coach than Sharp. I do not need to lie about what Smith and Sharp achieved at the Giants to make that case.

Why not run along and discover a few facts about Smith and development at the Giants rather than making stuff up. icon_wink.gif
