Bury 8 - 34 Wigan Cuthberts

The scoreline does not tell the story. Bury were all over Cuthberts in the first half and went into the break with a well deserved 8-4 lead. We were running well, hands were good, defensively were on top and to be honest at the turnaround Cuthberts weren't in the game at all. They came out much better in the second half, ran much better and threw the ball around more. We battled well for another 30 minutes but a shedload of injuries took their toll with 2 going straight to hospital, 2 off with concussion, 5 walking wounded on the pitch and half the team playing out of position and a couple of rookies thrown on. Finished the game with 8 fit players. Really disappointed - feel sure we'd have gone on to win without so much bad luck. Our boys are shattered.

Also a bit unhappy with a cheapshot one of the Wigan lads put in. Swung a punch at one of our lads from behind and caught him in the eye. He's now at Manchester Eye Hospital and it looks pretty bad. I know these things happen but a needless cheapshot could have very serious consequences.

Newton Storm 32-12 Chorley Panthers

our first win and thorougly deserved it. dont think we had one bad player on the park this week, everyone put in a performance. some great individual tries scored and played in great spirits.

our training is definatly paying off now, dont see why we cant continue it into the next game either.

Tigers Drew 22-22, good fair game felt the Tigers discipline cost us the game constantly piggy backing them up the field. The referee was equally poor for both sides. Great to see Newton bag a win well done lads hopefully heading in the right direction now.

Eccleston Lions 22 - 22 Widnes Tigers - good result for Widnes, tough place to go.
Newton Storm 32 - 12 Chorley Panthers - well done Newton, that's been coming a while.
St Helens Wild Boars 38 - 12 Bolton Mets - Another good win for Wild Boars.

Confidence is high now going into the Bolton game. Really looking forward to it.

That doesnt sound good about the cheap shot though, really out of order. Do you have any idea who it was or can your lad not remember?

No, didn't see his face, he was behind him as he did it. The lad has been to Manchester Eye Hospital every day, he's on 7 different types of medication - there's a rip on the eyeball, which has caused it to fill with blood. He still has no vision and won't until the blood drains and bruising goes down - hopefully it should be ok eventually, they're still looking at it. When I took him off and looked at it the whole eye had glazed over and was dark red - couldn't see the iris or pupil at all.

Good luck against Bolton - they're a big set of lads!

Sounds pretty bad! Hope it gets sorted.

The bigger the Bolton lads are, the harder they'll hit the ground after my "Alfie Langer" throw eusa_shhh.gif icon_wink.gif

They've got one lad called Hightower, and another they call 'Planet'. Gives you an idea of his, erm, girth. icon_thumb.gif

Round 8, 23rd OctBolton Mets vs Newton Storm
Chorley Panthers vs Eccleston Lions
Crosfields vs Bury Broncos
Widnes Tigers vs Rylands Sharks A
Wigan Bulldogs vs St Helens Wild Boars
Wigan St Cuthbert's A vs Westhoughton Lions

Reckon Bolton should be too strong for Newton at home, though Newton have improved; Eccy should have too much for Chorley; I'll go for us over Crosfields; Rylands are looking very strong at the moment; Wild Boars should turn Bulldogs over and Cuthberts should have too much for Westhoughton.

Thoughts?

Toughest one to call is the top one, think Bolton might just sneak it, but im sure the win would of given newton aload of confidence as they are better than the postion in the league suggests. Lions and Bury should win. After Tigers draw with Eccy, tigers confidence must be high as Eccy Lions is a hard place to go, so i think they might sneak a win. Hopefully the boars will continue the good start to the season and win, also think Cuthberts will have to much for westhoughton and will win comfortably.

Wont be any sibinnings for us (boars), we have calmed that right down now, i know were had a bad record with sinbinngs at the start of the season but discipline has improved alot latley and its staying that way. just think the problem for us at the start of the season was we wanted to be quick out the blocks and when things weren't going are way people were trying to hard which lead to daft mistakes and dosent help when you are given some useless refs.
