| I put a post in a couple of days ago about local lads and trying to bring our own through. Talking today to a mat.e of mine who's lad is 13 yrs old playing for an East Hull amateur club who is on Hull FC training system or whatever technical term they have for it scholarship or some posh name. his father is. Red and White I asked him why he has let him go to the dark side and he said Rovers are 10 years behind Hull in there recruitment system.
TAKE NOTE Mr. Hudgell
Anyone else know of any other kid with rovers blood in his veins having to go to the other KC to improve apart from losing potential player we are losing supporters

Do you know what realy pi**es me off about Hull Fc and there Fans??? F**KING EVERYTHING!!!!!!: |
|
| All I can say to this comment is it clearly very wide of the mark.
Currently working within the amateur game at said age groups. It won't take very long to realise that Hull KR are head and shoulders above Hull FC in every department youth development wise since the appointments of Pete Grayburn as head of youth and Rob Nickolay as player performance manager not forgetting Shaun Briscoe too.
Recruitment wise Rovers swept the board with the signing of all of the hottest local talent such has shown in their results this year so far undefeated. Whilst have a much larger squad of player compared to Hull FC simply as having witness first hand the coaching at both clubs Hull KR wins hands down, and young players feel more comfortable hence why they have a number of players also who are/where Hull FC fans.
So to your comment I think you are largely mistaken and the only conclusion I can come to is this is a player that the club possibly had no capacity or need for regardless if he's a Hull KR fan the club obviously fill the spot with another promising youngster.
Another plus for Rovers again having spoken and dealt with both clubs Hull FC are very arrogant, unapproachable and seem to recruit staff for staff sake, including parents of players they are trying to sign, with our boys coming away saying they didn't know who to even listen to. However when dealing rovers it is easy pleasant and has the personal touch which is missing from the so called "bigger club"
I am in no way denying Rovers in the past have been way behind as a club and can think back to two years ago when the club seemed non existent in the local game but this is no longer the case.
So Mr Hudgell I think you deserve to give yourself and all concerned a pat on the back as currently it seems to be in great hands and certainly flourishing locally.

| No, a story that stuck in my head was that of the parents of a current squad member, he's an Hull fan and had them as first choice. He went for an interview, his parents weren't allowed in the room and inside he was told there would be targets and goals and if not met - there's the door. He attended the same at Rovers and it was quite the opposite, parents were in and it was more of a family atmosphere.

You say this, but Hull recently had 3 players in the England under 16's squad and 3 in the England Academy squad, compared to none from Rovers in either squad. The main aim for the Academy is try and bring through a few players each year, Rovers have a better squad at 16's, but Hull better individual players, the real test is how many make it as SL players. I would bet you that from the respective 19's squad, hull have more players that come through and make good SL players than Rovers.
You are always going to get individual parents slagging off each other set ups and there are various reasons for that. I know players and coaches in involved in both set ups and I have heard positive things about both Hull and Rovers academies. Both have done well after been set back by Kath Hetherington and NH (First few years in SL), who didn't invest in the youth enough.
Think there is enough talent in the City to produce Sl players from both teams, Hull have been very good in the past at scouting the Cas/Wakey area also.

| Very true and I also appreciate that whilst it is down to opinion.
Hull FC also have a coach at each age group of the England set up and I have no doubt this plays a part in why they have boys within the set up.
I think judging who is better by the England selection is wide of the mark as Hull KR may have a totally different remit to how the want to produce players to that of England as their focus is to produce players for their club not the national pathway.
I also respect both clubs roles within producing players having seeing it first hand over the last two years with both clubs through the amateur game and feel that it is very poor that we all come on here and pass judgement on what I see from the outside is a very difficult job.
Players will be missed and not picked up and fans from either club will go opposite ways but this is the nature of the game I just think that overall they are doing a great job and to many people (myself included) hear one story and think we have missed a talent when we are not involved in the whys and what process each club follows.
So rather than being negative I'd like to congratulate both and just say keep up the good work guys as their work largly goes unrecognised until people come on with a negative thinking they personally have unearthed the next big thing.
I'm sure the countless unsocial hours each club puts into players and that of the players attitude and aptitude has a large part to play in them ever reaching the heights of super league and these people of both clubs should be commended.

What an excellent post and you make some very valid points, like you say players often don't get picked up initially, Jamie Shaul is the perfect example and one that players who don't initially make it should look too.
You seem a very good intelligent poster and I hope you stick around, don't let the idiots (from both sides but you off).
Who is your opinion from the Rovers academy squads are the ones to look out for?

Exactly right, if you can get 2/3 decent players coming through each year then you are doing things right, this is what Leeds and Wigan do. Hull, under agar had a spell of about 3 years with only Reece Lyne came through.
This has been a big improvement for both clubs, with players like Green (x2), salter, Cox, Beaumont, Taylor, Crooks, Cunningham, Bowden, Hadley and Shaul all coming through in the last two years or so.

| I don't really pay enough attention to the academies to be honest so can't say whose is better but judging by the squads of the top sides id say both Rovers and Hull are some way behind.
