Quote: berrigans bitch "It is on the VR thread, and the comments on there no way reflect the adult discussion which took place today between both FC & KR fans...There was nothing on that thread which could have implicated RLfans, the debate mainly covered past proven history, the allegations which are clearly publicised in the media, plus the dangers of drink driving
This is a forum to discuss rugby related issues I'm taking the same line as the FC mods took on the Gleeson situation that being safety first.
Yes I would love to allow it to go but lets be honest here we know what will happen at some point and I would rather not take that risk.

Once a statement was made about Gleeson on the FC website a thread was opened to discuss!!
Your club has made a statement, the media made a report and those were discussed by the fans today in a very sensible fashion, I disagree it was only going one way as it appeared both sets of fans shared the same view on it and like I say I was impressed in the adult way the debate/discussion took shape, how can you lock thread on the back of you think at some point something will happen I think sometimes you show no respect for posters who mostly are adults.
The inconsistency of the mods on these boards is not only confusing it is some-times pathetic.

Quote: dum-dum "I swear alot in conversation when I'm "with the boys" but when typing I feel you have the time to think before you type (so to speak) and be that little bit more pleasant. Wormy will vouch for my hatred of [icursing (bit American that)[/i.'"
Do you mean "cussing"? Dreadful Americanism. Cursing, meaning profanity or swearing, is very old English. "Swearing" in this context is relatively new English, formerly meaning an oath in front of God.
.
You're right, dum-dum, I love the English language and see no wrong in using old words to describe their original meaning. Although I do swear on occasion, I don't like to hear swear words used continuously, outside of their true context. Particularly in front of children, who don't have the maturity to understand the origins and therefore think it is mandatory for a smattering of Fs and Bs in every sentence used instead of adjectives or adverbs.

More dreadful than swearing, though, in my opinion, is the izing of our English language by the middle classes, because they can't cope with life. They are offended by the facts that life involves everyone having a bum hole, using it to excrete solids, people having sex for pleasure and to produce children, and so unilaterally removing the nouns and verbs originally associated with these activities.

It's not just this, though. Soon anything that had even a slightly unhygenic air to it became outlawed. French words were used as substitutes because they sounded prettier:

Napkins - Serviettes
What - Pardon
Pudding - Dessert
Scent - Perfume
Sick - Vomit/Ill
Bog/Loo - Toilet
Graveyard - Cemetery
False Teeth - Dentures

All the words on the right are far more offensive to me than bugger being used to mean one who commits buggery.

Hot toddies. The cure of all ailments.

Basic recipefreshly squeezed[/i, large teaspoon of honey. Topped up with boiling water.

You may need to blast in the microwave for a few seconds if it's too cool, and add more honey for the cough. If it doesn't cure the cough, 3 of these in rapid succession will knock you out so you get some sleep.

Thanks Wormy. Unfortunately the only alcohol in the house is wine and vodka. And I've no lemon juice. Not sure about the honey.Would vodka, coke and golden shred be a decent substitute, do you think?

I'm certain that'd be ok, if you heated it in the microwave and drank three within as many minutes icon_thumb.gif
