| Quote: Big Spender " remind us of your finishing positions, in what is commomly acknowledged as a far weaker league back then
No it is commonly acknowledged as being more of a level playing ground and closer competition.
It was far harder to progress due to the fact there was no salary cap. FACT
Rovers have been able to progress because they have a near full cap. Sky money has gone up and the cap has stayed the same.
It is far easier to come into super league and compete quicker now, as Rovers, Castleford and Catalans have proven

Yet while those teams have come into SL, Leeds and Saints have remained at the top end while your shower have stuck themselves in reverse and put their foot down.
Comply or die, my friend.

Is that the Castleford that went down, came back up and prompty went back down again.
Or the Catalans that finished rock bottom in their first season.
Rovers didnt compete in 07 they survived.

Doesnt fit with the point he was making.
Had they not had an exemption they would have gone down.

Maybe, but it supports the point of being able to come in and seriously compete due to the salary cap.

No it doesn't.
Catalans would have been relegated in their first season if not for the special dispensation and Cas would have been relegated AGAIN last season but for the licensing process, so if anything it proves his point to be completely wrong

Was the poster referring to when we had relegation or was he making a point that it is easier to compete and finish well due to salary cap nowicon_wink.gif

No he was making the point that it is easier for teams coming into SL to compete quicker due to the salary cap. I was pointing out how wrong he was using Cas and Catalans as an example as both should have been relegated having just been promoted. The thing that kept them in SL was the RFL.
His same point cannot now be proven because there is no promotion or relegation, but the two new sides in this years SL finished bottom and second botton, again disproving his point.

Actually it highlights how unstable a newly promoted team can be, take cats for example should have been relegated, by the 3rd season finished 3rd, not the best of seasons this year, yet here they are in the semi-final play-offs.

It wasn't the salary cap that helped them finish higher though, it was better recruitment and better players and a helping hand from their special dispensation

My point is it is easier to build a decent side quickly because all teams are able to compete financially. Unlike when hull were promoted when all the best sides could spend millions more and also didn't have to offload players.
Celtics have struggled because they do not have the resources and also have been thrown in at the deep end whereas Rovers and Castleford had a nucleus to build on.
Salford and Celtics won't disprove my point until they have had 3 years as I was comparing your teams first 3 years and my teams first 3 years

Hull KR
2007 - 11th
2008 - 7th
2009 - 4th lose our first 2 playoff games
lose first 2 playoff games (no better than rovers then)
2002 - 5th, lose playoff again
2003 - 7th
2004 - 3rd, lose playoff again
2005 - 5th, win first ever playoff game after 5th attempt then lose 71 - 0 to bradford
2006 - 2nd, get to final but lose again so still no S/L trophy to shout about.
2007 - 4th, win one lose one
2008 - 11th
2009 - 12th
NOT
Oh, and i nearly forgot, we are 7-3 up in derbies and by the next good friday derby we will have had the bragging rights for 958 of the 1089 days since we joined S/L.
