Hull kingston rovers.:Others/a27.gif

Quote: Broadhurst's Fist "Let me attempt to straighten this out. Gwylulm Lloyd hasn't got a clue what he is talking about, we all know that. Our pack overall did well. Costigan, Weyman and Poore are not fit enough yet and were quiet. Weyman I thought was the best of the three. Langley and Larroyer were solid and played big minutes without being spectacular. Green had a good game with some good off-loads and both Walkers were good if a little rusty. I don't think Hodgson playing nearly 80 paid off. But Sandercock is correct in saying our pack matched theirs. The problem was and is that you need to offer a bit more than a strong pack. Usual errors from Eden (error gave them first try and dropped the ball later that led to another try). Welham still jumping out of line and missing (cost a further 2 tries). Keating was anonymous and created nothing which is a concern but way too early to judge - just an observation from today. Burns was playing his first match so was way off the pace but will improve. Leeds have great backs and better half backs than us any day of the week and that was the major difference. However, not panicking after that. It is going to take weeks for the team to settle and fans are going to have to be patient. In hindsight Hall should have maybe played 6 but then how does Burns get match fitness? We'll be much better 3/4 games in.'"

Agree with most of what you say,but it shows how we all see things differently,I thought keating was close to being our best player.

Think rovers pack was good but tired easy. Costigan and weyman need to improve there fitness levels after 10 mind there was both blowing. Welham was shocking flying out the line in defence and not making the tackle. Playing with no sub hooker was a big mistake as the game went on a Josh tired the was no structure

TBh he's embarrassing he repeated out side backs 4 times almost taking the out of the interviewer and offered no other reason for the defeat I honestly do not know why Humberside bother to interview him after a defeat, looking at KR next 5 games I would stay off air for a few weeks if I was him FFs

Just got back. Great effort by the club for the pre match entertainment.
Good 1st half.
Pants in the 2nd half. Looked weak in defence on the fringes.
North stand ok, hudge was correct about not enough loo's! Our seats are bang next to the away section, a teenage Leeds fan jeering at us every time they scored, looking directly to us and not even at the try his team were in the process of scoring. Some people I know who go to the games would have knocked the teeth clean from his head. Result, I'm fooking moving, maybe back to east stand!

Seems like a similar sort of game to week 1 last season when we played Leeds. I wouldn't worry too much, we had a decent season in the end and there's no reason you can't have one.

When you played us a few weeks ago two things struck me about your team. 1; the forwards looked unfit, and 2; there is no real pace in the team.

The first of those I put down to it being the first hit out and assumed they would improve. They still will improve but it would appear that was also a factor today and maybe you would have benefited from one more friendly. You don't ship 6 second half tries just because Whelam has jumped out of the line, the forwards must be struggling for a team to run away like that.

The second one I think will ultimately stop you from making the jump from 8th to the top 6. There is no substitute for pace. Today for example the Leeds players were quicker than their opposite number from 1 to 7. You can get by without having speed if you are well drilled, but it's that half yard of pace that turns a half chance into a try. Eden aside I don't see anyone who can show a clean pair of heels when they get put in space.

Not seen the game yet, but that is my general feeling too. Leeds have more pace than most, and others likely won't expose us quite so badly. Tbh, I was hoping a heavy patch might nullify their threat - I suppose the worry is that actually it did!

It'll take a while for things to gel. Hopefully not too long, as we've got some more tough games coming up. Perhaps we're as well getting them out the way early on, especially if we can get a couple of results, but if we don't then you worry a bit about confidence. Bit of a reality check, but I'll reserve judgement till we've played a few and I've watched even one.

'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world' Yves Le Prieur, the real inventor of the aqualung:

Most people knew that we lack pace in the backs, but yet we never (Cockayne apart) bothered strengthening in the backs. The pack will come good, there are too many quality played not to but I really worry about the backs. I though Eden was ok, apart from his customary couple of errors, Keating was looking to set stuff up but no-one seemed to be following him up, Burns needs to step up to the plate and was anonymous.

We didn't kick smart, we let them have too much easy possession and once they got a bit of steam up on the flanks, mainly Cockayne's side we didn't have an answer to them, this is disappointing as we did the double over them last season and apart from a couple of players, they are the same side.

I think the pack will be here for a few seasons without too much change, so the next recruiting MUST be in the backs, it's time up for Welham and hall is not the answer to any of the positions. I hope we can bring in a quality centre and winger for 2015 as I think that none of what we have will cut it THIS season, never mind next.

Correct. He was not even watching the game. Reminded me of football fans who frequent the north east corner of the kc.

Leeds stuffed us at home last year, too - 10-44. The only team we did a double over was Saints. We did beat everybody except Wigan, though.

Wel I've just got in. And I must say after the first half, I was more than disappointed with that second half.
Wayman, Poore and Costigan are well off the pace, Langley and Larroyer were 'ok' but did longer spells.
Burns was for me lost out there, and understandably well off the pace. Keating was steady in the first, but didn't involve himself in the match in the second half, as a vocal good scrum half should, and that's a big worry to me! Welham needs a boot up his booty after that performance, that's the worst I've seen him play. Crap defence from Hall too. Lastly, but not least, I thought Sandercock was well and truly out-coached today.
Bearing in mind I have to not over-react with it being our first game of the season, tho after that performance, I can't not say I'm slightly concerned!

HULL KR:

I would pretty much agree with CS, the game was lost in the backs. Welham is like a revolving door, leaving Charlie exposed, Hodgson has no bottle and Hall is a winger only and all lack real pace. The pack more than matched leeds and showed a lot more agression than previous seasons so the middle of the park looks in good shape IMO.
Welham should be dropped and Salter should take his place, maybe larroyer or lovegrove in the other centre pushing Hall onto the wing if only to keep his place for goal kicking.
