| Quote: Suzie "I was on jury service last year on a near identical case to Ben's, needless to say both young men got custodial sentances.
He's been extremely lucky and the fact that he's a sportsman and probably in a position to employ a top lawyer certainly will have helped his case. It's hard to take because if it was a member of joe public no doubt they would be in prison now. Whether it be Raynor,Cooke, Reardon or Pryce this should not be allowed to happen, the justice system is a joke.'"
I dis agree 100% thats a load of tosh, wether i support Bens sentence or not is irrelevant, but i fail to see how you can say its a must custodial case?
There are cases in the news week in week out of people getting off with this that and other things ranging from driving offences to murder, I dont believe for a second you were on jury duty and for anyone to suggest the man deserves prison seems based only on the fact that he is a Rovers player.
As has been stated Gareth Raynor who has been a bad boy on more than one or two occassions has gone on to successfuly represent hes country and thrive as a league player(well to a certain standard anyway),I remember having him join in our coaching sessions around four years ago with the kids as part of his community payback.
What i am saying is two wrongs dont make a right but if someone can learn what they have done and truly repent and seek to encourage others to behave better than they have, then even in the harshest of periods some good can come out of something very bad.

Personally, I think he and his friend should have been put in prison because they repeatedly kicked someone in the head whilst they were lying on the floor helpless. Not JUST because he's a Rovers player..

| he doesnt deserve prison because he is a rovers player, but because he went back to dish out more.the 1st attack you might claim was in the heat of the moment, but not the second.that is just cowardly.all you backing him should be ashamed of yourselves.

Yet you weekly support a player that pushed a glass into another mans face.

When was the last time someone got a suspended sentence and community service for murder?

Just to spin it about, say for sake of argument, all hyperthetical like, would you view be the same if Cockayne was a FC player? Or is it just becuase he is a Rovers player you've decided people are lying about their jury service and developed the ability to determine posters motives based on 4 lines of text.

No my view regardless of who he played for would not change.
I was asked if i would accept help from G.Raynor as part of his community payback after one of hes mis-demeanors and took him on board, the club name is not important, ai am merely suggesting that people all over our country are getting more lenient sentences so just because Ben has it shouldnt be misconstrewed as something out of the ordinary.
As for the jury case bit, why say anything else? I dont believe the poster did jury service in a case almost exactly the same as Bens so why say any different?

| Having read my way through the posts I will give my opinion. I will support Ben on the field when he plays for Rovers. That is my only interest in him or any other player. I would like them all to be fine upstanding members of society but we all know that the world is full of idiots & unsavory people. We should just be happy that the vast majority are well behaved members of our community. As for the sentance that is a matter for the courts not us, like it or not thats how the law works your opinion or mine does not come into it. As for the RFL adding any more punishment! well that is bordering on double jeppordy (punished twice for the same ofence).Ben has been a total plonker & will have to put up with all the stick that comes with it, I will be interesred to see how he goes but as I said I will support him as a player on the pitch in red & white.

| I've just been examining the sentences for Raynor and Cockayne with my lawyer and despite the racial nature of Raynor's offence, my lawyer says that it's the fact of the repeated kicking of the victim that has given Cockayne a greater sentence (although Raynor had to pay more compo to the victim).
Again my lawyer says both are very lucky they didn't get custody, but as I've mentioned in a PM to one person, if his case had been heard before a certain judge in my home town, we'd have been discussing this two days ago. Judges normally don't give a monkey's whether prisons are full. If the crime deserves the sentence, off you go and do not collect £200!

which is somewhat different to believing that somone is saying he should get custodial just because he is a rovers player (fwiw I thought Raynor should have as well, and Cooke before him)
I could also say I don't belive your 1st line based on as much evidence as you have for not beliving Suzie's jury service, but I wont.

| Quote: cab man "It would seem Bens chance for an England cap is back on. If he keeps playing the way he is, and win us the cup as i expect he will play a major part. For me Bens enthusiasm drove us to were we are now. Now he has been let off lightly he should grasp the opportunity and realise the potential he has got.
Cmon Ben.'"
His enthusiasm also saw him drive his foot...... sorry, but get rid. If someone else picks him up, so what.
