Those who follow the path of the righteous:
shall have their reward.: |
|
| To add to Sandra The T's theories on Gingers.
Last night at the KC the half time 'entertainment' involved someone attempting to kick a ball into the boot of a car. Even the announcer commented more than once on the fact that the kicker had ginger hair. He missed spectacularly with his first two kicks but was spot on with his third and won himself £500.
Clearly well able to seek out small dark caves.

| Just watched a documentary on Sky Arts on Duran Duran's album Rio. Memories of me and my friends crowding round a school bench when someone brought in Smash Hits to gasp over the relatively merits of Le Bon, Rhodes and the three Taylor boys. I remember buying it at HMV in Oxford Street for £4.29, shelves and shelves filled with it. 29 years since its release. But the music itself was pretty iconic. My favourite song was The Chauffeur, which is beautiful and melancholy with a lovely rich production by Nick Rhodes. Sigh.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Give over, decent pop music, but that's as far as it goes. The best thing about Duran Duran was/is Le Bons' bread knife.
Christ I've got a terrible hang over, got to go to flipping Coventry in a bit.
Saw Ranga indulging in a bit of domestic abuse last night, battering her husband. Poor man.

Bad times.

| We're off to spurn today - the lighthouse is open as a one-off because of the Heritage weekend. May call to Paull on the way back 'cos dum-dum's church is open too, and Paull Holme tower. Which cake is best, dum-dum, and is your Grandad's picture up yet?
Then back to Hull for the Heritage Ale Trail. Ending the cultural weekend on a high.

Enjoy.

| Nice trip out to East Riddlesden Hall. Crikey, those National Trust people know their stuff. There was a dresser in the parlour that apparently is specifically mentioned in Wuthering Heights. Then a wander round Saltaire, dappled sunshine, a nice cappuccino in the Half Moon Cafe watching a cricket match going on next to the river. How lovely. Early autumn takes some beating.

Is that in 'Fax, with a maze on the grass below?
I love Saltaire, what's on in the Hockney gallery at the moment. Brilliant kitchen shop there.
I once had a lovely picnic watching the cricket, don't do it any more as I can sit on the lower patio, read The Observor and have a few glasses of wine now.

It's in Keighley.
Saltaire looked fab. Just that walk down past the United Reform church and Roberts Park by the weir. Didn't have time to go round the mill - it's a nice Sunday winter morning excursion for us when it's bright blue sky and nithering. Oldest Baristette has decided she's going after one of the cottages there as her first time buy. Clever girl.

I was a Duranie. What fun we had. No-one could understand why Andy Taylor was my favourite - answer was he reminded me of Aston Villa's Gary Shawhttps://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/birmmail/jul2008/4/0/4FDAAECD-FB19-E9EB-64CFEC3FE41A1D02.jpg" >

Had a great day. Was astounded at Paull Holme Tower. It's turns out this was the one remaining tower of four left from the manor house in which Rembrandt allegedly took shelter. Felt for the owner who is watching it literally crumble as English Heritage won't help with it's restoration. Another treasure will be lost.
Paull itself seems much more bustling and prosperous than it did a couple of years ago. dum-dum's church is wonderful, though it does, indeed, lack a "Last Supper". We saw the cannon-ball holes fired from the Humber by Oliver Cromwell's lot which set the church on fire and destroyed the roof. Terrifying to think that 2 years ago the church almost closed, but perseverance from the community raised the necessary £250k via parachuting jaunts and dum-dum's coffee afternoons. It's a beautifully maintained and presented example of 12th century architecture, now. The church supporters seem to have a wide influence in the village as a whole and have developed a Heritage trail, and all in all, Paull's making a name for itself as a proper place to visit.
I really enjoyed it and bought a jar of Autumn Chutney (apple, courgette, tomato, chilli, garlic ginger plum and runner bean) and a jar of Cherry and Redcurrent jam from the lovely coffee shop in the church.
Good to see all three pubs open again and busy. Which one's your local dum-dum?
