| All joking apart, Dixon has skill and speed but on the basis of defence, he deserves to be dropped. His crap tackle technique is more a desire for self preservation on his part and shows a lack of spine.
Since when did little guys tackle high in RL? He needs to be made to watch Roger Millward videos and how he tackled low around the waist and legs until he gets the message.

| I don't get it. One minute on here people are slating Chester for the teams mickey poor defence and when he does something about it he gets pilloried?
I don't think Chester et all and the players are under any illusion if they don't show backbone on Sunday then the fall out will be toxic.
IMO if Cockayne is at FB then that places Dixon behind Sio and Mantomato everyday of the week.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Players aren't coached like that nowadays. Old skool tackling was that you hit the player above the hips and then slid down the legs, the old "They can't run without their legs" adage.
Today, players are told to fear the offload at all costs, so they try and wrap the ball, personally, I think players should have the intelligence to do one or the other depending on the scenario, but I realised that's asking a lot.
Too many players focus on the big hit, often, all that's required is to put a firm hand on the opposition and divert them into touch.
We've turned a lot of defence into American football of the nineties, if you watch the NFL know it 's a lot more subtle both in attack and defence, players are much more focused on running good lines and attempting to stop line breaks.

Dixon fails your intelligence test, then. He is poor on defensive reads as well, but not alone in that regard. If he's not responding to coaching advice, he might have to sit out a few games.
Real shame.

| I agree, that's what I was saying.
But I think the coaching staff hold a lot of that responsibility, what's Sean Briscoe up to now a days, he's on someone's staff, is it Wire?
Maybe we could emloy him as a part time consultant in the way Bradford employed Jamie Baulch to teach their players (which I thought was an excellent idea and have forever been surprised that it wasn't repeated) how to sprint properly.

Did Chester before he took over? I think he's finding out that being assistant coach is light years away from just a little step up to the job as head coach. If we get a good hammering at the good Friday Derby and we're rooted to the bottom of the table then surely his position will become untenable. Can you imagine if sandercock had had these pre season results and recruitment strategy? He'd be getting slaughtered. Chester's good will from the fans is gone, I think. Time to produce. No excuses. I'll still be getting behind the boys on Sunday, as usual, but I fear the worst. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong and surprise us all.

I'd love Chester to prove us wrong and stick two fingers up to even the doubters in our own ranks (me included). But I'd be amazed if the board hasn't made tentative enquires about any proven coaches available in say.......March time.
