'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world' Yves Le Prieur, the real inventor of the aqualung:

Do these FC muppets believe Salford, Wakey and cas (should they all get new grounds) will have absolutely no tax/ratepayers money involved. FC and City have benefitted well out of the flotation money and East Hull has largely been ignored (ok, technically the deep is in East Hull, but its really a city centre project that doesn't benefit the east in any way). As a tax payer, I dont expect the council to build us a brand new ground, but a part investment in a north stand that includes worthwhile community use is not much to ask.

Quote: Digger_the_Dog "I agree with most of what you are saying but when the KC was built the Council took into consideration how much of an impact it would have on the City, for example the offer to all three sporting clubs to play there, the conference facilities, the floodlit pitches for the community, the arena for boxing, basketball and other sports, the landmark stadium to attract pop stars and International games. All things for the good of Hull.

What would building Rovers a new stadium do that they have not done already with the KC except please about 7000 people who was not even that bothered about Rovers 4 years ago and will go back where they came from if Rovers went down or went bust?

Hull has a stadium, in a central location (unless anyone can think of somewhere more central) and it is a Stadium that can be used by the whole of Hull in one way or another. It is not the Councils fault that Rovers didn't want to move in.'"

Hull FC & Hull City have a stadium in West, that’s West... Park?! Hull Kingston Rovers are based in East Hull, end of. It’s barmy that anyone ever expected HKR to play there week in week out.

I don't know exactly what Rovers/the fans petition are/is asking for but for me its not an entire new stadium, one new stand would do and it could be built to include facilities like the KC has provided its local community with but on a smaller scale.

I’d like the council to give Rovers a helping hand, not a fantastic brand new stadium and facilities but just some help to provide better facilities.

As for it being only 7000 surly that would only be true if the average gate was 4/5000. Before Rovers fans be accused of all ‘coming out of the woodwork’ once in Super league, same in every sport and for every team, and I’d expect the crowds to go up again with better facilities.

You forgot Number 8 .

8 - Hull KR, a club that has posted losses year on year. A club that has been given a stadium by the Council, way before the KC was built and built in the location they wanted it, East Hull. A club that since it's entry into Super Dooper League has decided to invest in playing staff instead of pay it's bills leading to CCJ's and various rumours of financial trouble.

I can see why you think the Council should be bailing them out again by giving them ANOTHER new stadium.
The statement that FC pay a "peppercorn" rent is one of the most ill-informed and unintentionally ironic comments I've ever seen on here icon_lol.gif

Here's the deal. Lakin promised the RFL it was all systems go on the stadium planning and funding wise, and said the whole 14,000 capacity stadium would be ready for business by Feb 2010. Rovers have lost at least £900k since then and have been unable to secure the funding to fulfil their commitment. Hudgell has therefore been on the offensive trying to strong arm the council into bankrolling commitments he and Rovers made to the RFL two and a half years ago. The council will probably put some money in, but they might be wary given that they also assisted the Hull Stingrays over a long period of time who were loss-making and ultimately had an unsustainable business model.

I don't want a brand new stadium , a fruitball stadium , the KC is a lovely stadium no doubt , but these new stadiums lack atmosphere in my opinion , i wouldn't swap Craven Park for the world the atmosphere when the East stand are in full voice is awesome , these new seated stadiums kill that .

Regardless of the bickering and cheap digs by the FC fans , Rovers are in Sl and we are here to stay ,our franchise is secure , we are progressing slowly but surely , our ground is by no means perfect we all know that, but it is HOME !!!, we are where we are on passion ,commitment , belief and most of all merit , i love Craven Park , i love Rovers and i love that the Hull fans hate the fact we are in SL and that ain't gonna change , they had their chance to bury us and they failed miserably ... Rally Round !!!!!!!

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Frederick Douglas:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_30596.jpg

Another hair role model for you. You'd need a perm to emulate his perfect early 80s look though. And an hour of backcombing.

Driving down preston road the other day I couldn't believe how much money has been spent knocking down council houses, landscaping and building shiny new buildings for the deprived communities of east hull. I also see they're building some monstrosity of a school which will, I'm sure, greatly imprve educational standards before they close it and knock it down in 2017.

I don't really believe that anyone thinks more money should be pumped into the area purely because rovers can't afford a new stand.

Wasn't the land the current ground is on sold to the club at massively under market value because the club couldn't afford to buy the land otherwise?

Didn't the council lift the restrictive covenant allowing rovers to sell some of the land to ease their financial worries a few years back?

Didn't the council buy the stadium from rovers to stop them folding?

Didn't the council lease back the stadium to gaingroup at a peppercorn rent, a rent which has been passed on to rover meaning they have no stadium costs other than upkeep?

Didn't the council sell rovers the old greatfield school for a pittance?

Don't Hull FC pay in excess of £1/2m a year to play at the KC and they receive next to nothing from bar and refreshment sales on match days?

Amazing that it's universally accepted that the KC on derby day has an atmosphere better than anything seen in east hull since VE day

But apart from that, what have the council ever done for Rovers/East Hull?

Hypothetically, would you swap the benefits of the KC for a similar level of 'subsidy'?

While Hull pay good rent, isn't it tapered/crowd dependent so that the risk was loaded on to the stadium company/council? That could be wrong, but I'm sure I read it somewhere.

Now of course, Rovers could have/(still?), get the same deal, but would Hull fans have accepted playing in the east? Mind, as most of them are from east Hull, probably. Would have been the best location with hindsight, unless the Tigers' fans are 90% west Hull.

Nope, I probably wouldn't, but then again I'm not the one claiming that the council has done nothing for east hull or rovers when that obviously isn't true. I've also always thought that the tradeoff of paying a chunk of money to the SMC was well worth it given what we are getting in return.

Regarding the rent, IIRC it was originally set at a certian percentage of gate sales over a specified figure. That figure was derived from historical attenances at the Boulevard. So, if the crowds ever dropped below a set figure we'd be paying nothing, if (as happened, damn those glory hunters icon_wink.gif ) the crowds went up we'd pay proportionatly more. There have been rumours that the agreement has been renegotiated since the original one, so I;ve no idea if that is still how it works.

As for the East/West thing, I'm pretty sure that sites were looked at in the East, Sutton Fields keeps getting mentioned (that would have suited me, almost staggering distance), Also the east/west divide is probably not as relevant today as it once was, and finally, wouldnt Rovers be returning to their really really historical side of the city if they moved west. icon_wink.gif
